Vendstar - What am I missing?

I would very much like to know what I am missing? I am currently in the due diligence stages of considering a bulk candy vending route. I just joined this forum on 10/21/09. I negotiated with Vendstar for 10 machines @ a very competitive price. That will include a lifetime warranty and their training program. I like the way the machines look and work and with the warranty, I can always get replacement parts. I can't seem to get a good feel for the red or yellow machines that are available as they look tacky to me. The Vendstars seem to fit better in the kind of locations I am considering.

Why does no one like the Vendstar's???

I negotiated with Vendstar for 10 machines @ a very competitive price.

Are you saying you "negotiated" a competitive price directly from Vendstar? Do you mind saying what that price was? The members here generally find Vendstars on the secondary market for around $25-$50 each.

Hang on for the member responses to this thread. I have a feeling this thread will become very popular, very soon.  ;D

BTW, Welcome to the board!

The price I negotiated was $125.00 a piece. From what I researched, that was in a competitive price point for a new machine. Plus, as I mentioned, I will get the formalized training program and the lifetime warranty. If the machines break, I will be able to get new parts vs buying used. (buying used would subject me to the unknown about the machine and no ready supply of parts.

Welcome to the forum.

If you can get all that from Vendstar for 125 each you have negotiated well. I wouldn't do it myself but that is because I am familiar with vendstar machines (I own 10) and I don't care for the biz-ops. If you could negotiate machines at 90 each along with all the guarantees and stuff from Vendstar including locations that might be a good deal. It would be a great deal compared to what everyone else is paying for Vendstar business packages.

Most of us have picked up Vendstars very cheap. I paid $55.00 each for mine Brand new still in the box shipped to my door.  That is even more than a lot of people on the forum are willing to pay for them.

What Vendstar offers isn't much more than what a forum like this can do for you FOR FREE!!!! You can learn all the locating "secrets" right here. You can get entire machines for replacement parts from craigslist and ebay for pennies on the dollar. You can get tons of advice on running a bulk business here....... Pretty much every question you could have has already been answered here on this forum.

Anyway, you have negotiated a good price. I would try to get it down to maybe $90 each if it included evrything including locations. (But that is just me.) I am sure plenty of other people here will have plenty to say about the subject.

Do what you think is right for you. Since you have negotiated such a good deal maybe you have the right talent for a biz-op and locating machines, etc.

whether you go with Vendstar or not you can do well with this business.............

Thank you David, I get more excited everyday. In regards to the price, I tried to go lower. I started at the full biz-op of 25 machines for $9,995.00 all the way down to the 10 machines @$125.00. He was pretty much done dealing with me. (This deal does not include locations but, I am confident that I can do this as I have 26 years of Business to Business sales experience) I am letting the deal sit as I learn more. My last stab will be to get a repurchase price of $100.00 including shipping on a "as needed basis". We'll see. I want something that does not look cheap or tacky. I just can't get excited about those red or yellow machines?? What machine to you prefer??

1800's all the way!!! They were a biz-op similar to Vendstar. I didn't (wouldn't) buy the business package but I love the machines! far superior to Vendstar in my opinion and they look excellent. You can find them on ebay and CL nowadays. The biz-op now only sells Full Line combo machines.

Read around the forum and ask lots of questions you can do well with this business.....

Good luck!

One thing to consider is that Vendstars are 3 compartments which means 3 different products for each machine. Are you prepared to locate the larger machines ? Some locations only can support a single head. Your thinking is on track, however think this thing all the way out. Alot of us start out with single heads then upgrade as needed. Less investment in machines and product. Also try to get a feel for the type of product you will need or want to sell. Candy, gum, gumballs, nuts, etc. You have a ways to go yet but just keep on getting information to make the decision that suites you.

Thank you. I cannot believe how much I have learned in a few weeks. When I answered the biz-op ad for Vendstar, I almost pulled the trigger. Now, I am just learning and learning. I am so glad that I did not fall for the "package deal" out of the gate. It would take me years to re-coup that investment!

Thank  you. No spill tray? Again, I am still learning. Is that really necessary?

No spill tray needed they just break off anyway.

I just bought 10 vs off ebay for $30 each I call that a deal.

The red & yellow machines are mostly metal and are nice look machines

Some say VS looks cheap but they get the job done..

I got a information pack from VS and prices were to high for me

had a man name Richie Goldberg calling me if you don't buy he

worry the hell out of you calling.

I just don't like Vendstars.  They have their place in the vending industry, but they do not fit my tastes.  In the second route I purchased, there was a hand full of Beaver machines.  The Beaver machines have been copied over and over.  You can feel the quality when you take them apart.  When I compete for a good location, I pull out the Beaver wildcard.  I can a body in any color to match the locations colors.  The stands scream quality.

Now, spending the money for certain locations do not always make sense, but it is a good part of the arsenal.

For $1250 you should be able to find brand new Vendstars for around $70. That will give you around 16 or 17 machines. Keep one for parts only and you're ahead of the game. Experiment with the spare machine and learn how they work. Hands on training is the best teacher. I do this with all the machines I purchase.

Vendstar's training will more than likely be a manual that they send with the machines. You can get these on eBay also.

I have 16 of these and the only major problem I had so far is one broken chute door. I like them because they are light weight and easy to transport. The interchangable canisters are great for quick product changes.

Take the time to read up on the posts here about Venstars. You will find plenty of pros and cons and tips on how the machine works.

Personally, I would not buy directly from them. They are a biz op and will sell you a bunch of hype to get you hooked. That's why you can find these machines at dirt cheap prices. These are the people that bought into the hype and now are trying to recoup some of their losses. Welcome to the forum and good luck on your decision.

No spill tray needed they just break off anyway.

I haven't ever had this problem, how often does this happen? I have heard this mentioned a couple of times. Is this really a problem? I have 1800's and Vendstars with spill trays and I have never had this happen.

I am just curious for those who have this problem how often it happens, does it happen to all the trays all the time. That is the way some paople have made it sound and again, I have never had this problem.

I could see the spill tray being an issue.  Just thinking about the leverage involved if a person presses on it.  But thinking about how they look without a spill tray, and even if it isn't too common a problem, I think I will put all future ones out without one.

Here are 10 machines on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/10-NEW-VENDSTAR-3000-TRIPLE-HEAD-VENDING-MACHINES_W0QQitemZ320437912857QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBI_Vending?hash=item4a9b968519

Now obviously they could go up if there are other bids, and are pick up only in Pittsburgh PA, which would be an 850 mile drive for you.  But they are supposed to be new Vendstars for $499.

I would rent a truck, or even a van,  stay overnight at a hotel, and drive the 850 miles to save the $700 myself.  But that is just me.

The Mage, thank you for the eBay listing. I do want to say that there is a method to my madness.

Once I buy the 10 machines @ $125.00 (however over priced), I will then have access to whatever future parts, stickers ect... that I would need. I would be a customer. Once I have the first 10 placed and see how things are coming along, I would then only buy on CL or eBay. New with lifetime warranty's and the formal training program(supposedly a $800.00 value) and the owners manual, would give me the tools for all my future purchases.

You are probably right. I didn't really think that a Total purchase price of $1250.00 for 10 machines,

lifetime warranty's, all assorted labels, free shipping, owners manual and formal training program was a biz-op rip off but, I'm learning!

Kelly, toooo funny.  Telling it like it is though.

I would very much like to know what I am missing?

You are missing what everyone is telling you about new Vendstars!  The folks here are giving you a "free - formal training program"(a value you can't put a price on)

As far as the "owners manual", if you can't figure out how to use/service/fix your VS's(or any machine for that matter) we might need to have you committed right now.

And the warranty,  worth about as much as the paper I'm writing this on.  Oh, wait a min.....

Seriously though Woody, try to find a deal on a few machines, get your feet wet, and then go from there. When you actually start vending I think you will realize all the info you are being bombarded with here is pretty darn accurate.
