jb5580
What would you guys and gals say is the farthest miles away from your home you would travel to be worth having a bulk route? 50 miles, 100 miles?
West Coast Vend LLC
I do about a 40 mile radius from my home. I would not go to much farther than that unless I had every account close to me that I could have. It's not to bad if you are only going once per month but if you have to refill or repair accounts it gets kind of expensive to keep driving back and forth. If you have skill and crane machines you will have to go to those accounts every week or two. You have to figure out your cost of doing business and see if traveling time and fuel costs will keep you profitable. Everyone is different so you must decide what works for you. The Mage
My route is actually in another city. My first stop is ~43 miles. Before I purchased this route, I seriously thought about it. But this was a city I travel to often, and have a relative that lives there. My decision was that I would not mind traveling here twice a month. But really not more then that. So I will still build up my route there, but only to a point. And because I want to make my route as efficient as possible, I do not plan on any future locations going very far outside of the current route. This is what works for me though. The decision was both personal, and professional. If either one did not work, I would not have done it. In fact if I had a partner, as I almost had, it would not have worked. Now, obviously, and has been stated before, what works for me is not what works for you. How long do you want to spend driving? Do you enjoy driving? Do you like/mind going to this area of town? Do you want to spend that much gas? Do you, or will you have more then one location in that area? After taking the cost of driving, and candy, and other expenses into account, are you making enough per hour servicing the route? What if you include the time spent at home preparing for the route, and finishing up the route? (i.e. record keeping.) Starting up should take more time then once you have the route established, and you need to consider the future of this route. For example if it may not be worth it if you kept it as is, but once you get a few locations in this area, it may be worth it. Also don't forget you can always dump a portion of a route at any time, by selling it off, or just relocating the machines closer.
jb5580
Thanks for the replies. The one I found on CL is probably to far for me(150miles plus toll), but if any of you are near this area it sounded pretty interesting. It is on CL eastern shore of virginia listing: 45 machines on location throughout Delaware making average $500.00 a month for $1000.00. I think this comes to like $25.00 per machine with location. I think they are Vendstars and Peppermint patty machines. Jim
allknowing4ever
I think that would depend on how much money the location is worth in my mind. What I mean by that is if I could go to a big money locations like at a mall, theater ,supermarket, etc. And the math works out in my favor enough then I would drive there no matter how far it is. Hope that helps. Billy
antoniocinisi
my service radius is 1 hour in all directions.
kai1836
Just my two cents but I would travel for good rack spots. The more machines you have in a sot the more money usually. You could make 9 stops for singles or 1 stop for a big rack. Good way to expand as well. Good luck.
lurtsman
My farthest location is 17 miles from me. It is on the way to Sam's club, and has a shooting hoops so a 4 month service cycle is fine.
mxer518
Go get that route, then you will have an excuse to fill in the void of distance with more machines until they are connected. That's how I grew my business.

That's how I grew my business. i think this is good advice. Its sounds too far away, but are your expenses going to exceed the profit? I guess it depends on your specific situation. jb5580
I have a guy down here on the outer banks of NC that is trying to sell a 25 machine route for like 2 months now for $12,000! What's wrong with this guy. He says in his add that it makes $250.00 to $300.00 in the off season and $900.00 to $1000.00 n the tourist season. Thats about $6000.00 a year, not bad if it's true. This route is about 70 miles away from me but I sure would be interested in buying it for about $2500.00. He wants $12,000!!! it would take 2 years before you even began making the first profit. Thats like $450.00 a machine.
jb5580
The owner of the outer banks route above just e-mailed personally saying he is willing to negotiate within reason. I have'nt responded to his add since a month ago or so. What is this route worth in your opinion's. It sounds like a route in a very good touristy area. What do you think is a good offer. He's obviously way off at $12,000.

jb5580
Well, I found out what this poor guys deal is. He bought a vendstar package of 25 machines for $10,000! He tried to tell me in an e-mail that my offer of $150.00 a machine is way to low because they would cost me $400.00 a peice if I got them on my own, and I would'nt get the vendstar warranty with that . Little does he know that I'm a member of vendiscuss and have been well educated on this scam he got suckered into. He offered to go as low as $300.00 a machine(way to high for me). jb5580
This is the guys reply e-mail to my offer, He really got taken didn't he!: I see. Well, theese are Vendstar 3000, they are warrantied for LIFE included rout locations so thats a plus. they were like a franchise and i paid $10.000 for them!! They are on charity wich is another plus - there is no percetage you need to share with the store owners. Plus the profits i specified are based on the fact that they are doing now - after almost a 8 month of me not even thinking about developing business. if you up to it you can definatelly lower the costs by say buying candies from BJs instead of Wallmart (what im doing) and increase the sales by relocating them - with i can assisst you with knowin as much people as i do on the Outer Banks. Think about it, 200$ a piece is a bit too low, but i can definately consider $300. the thing is that the brand new mashines will cost you that (350-400) but they will be without the best locations that i got, without the 2 year tax history wich definatelly appreciates the busines and without all the parts that i have for them. And still, the mashines are warrantied for life so its easy if you loose one or smth - just to replace it with warranty, it costs only $100 fee! Thanks, Yaros. Jax Snacks
Just like the Energiser Bunny, these stories just keep going on and on! This seller can not deal with the reality of his situation and it will take time for him to accept his painful reality. There is a guy here that has been trying to dump his 15 Vendstars (8 on location) on ebay and CL. His original asking price was close to $4,000 - he is now down to about $1500! It may take 6 to 12 months, but over time most sellers eventually will wake up and smell the coffee. Wait him out! Although, I still don't like that machine, the locations may be worthwhile (assuming he services them properly and does not neglect them). jb5580
Here's my latest with Yaros on the outerbanks, I really feel for him: I sent him this in response to his e-mail back to me above: I'm sorry you bought into a biz-op program, but you overpaid for your machines. I can get vendstar 3000's all day long for $50.00 to $75.00 a piece. Add in a locator for $50.00=$100.00 to $125.00 a machine located. Keep my e-mail address and if we get closer on price, let me know. JIM And he replied with this: Well, maybe so, but keep in mind that its the locations that do the trick - not the mashines. You have to have the connections to have the best spots on the OBX - and thas is exactly what is for sale now. I could easily get what i want if i wait but i unfortunatelly cant so if you really have the money, interest and can do everything fast i can maybe get rid of everything for 8grand but only if you real and act fast - trust me for 8k i got other interested in buying them. He still thinks he is going to get $8,000 for 25 machines on location! That's still $300.00+ a machine. Maybe he will but not from me.

Make a deal with him to have him sell his machines to someone else, and then to sell some of your locations for the same price. Give him 50$ commission per location of yours he sells I don't believe he can get anyone to pay that much. He doesn't have the silver sales tongue. Calling them "mashines" twice ruins his credibility.
