Walmart's in the Vending Business!

I'd be curious to see if all the Walmarts convert to this. Lets say you give your kids a couple of bucks to play the video games while you shop. They don't beg and cry for stuff and you get out of the store spending less money. From a retailer perspective I'd rather have the kids racking up your bill buying "extra" stuff than spending a couple of bucks in the arcade. Just a thought.

I don't know about that...Many parents may NOT "get out of the store spending less money".

A parent can give their kid a couple of bucks to get them out of their hair while they shop. The parent then wouldn't have their kid around them crying and nagging. Without those nagging kids around, parents may then take their time while shopping. More time shopping means more items bought....which means more $$$ for Walmart.

PLUS Walmart keeps those couple bucks the kid spent in the arcade.

Why do you think some malls build those little indoor playgrounds in the middle of their building? It's so the kids don't stop mom/dad from shopping and spending more money while at the mall.

Our Walmarts have gamerroms, at least some of them do.  I think Namco has or had the games in them.  They end up being 4-5 arcade games and 5 cranes and a kiddie ride most of the time.  I never see anyone in them.  I think Namco went out of businesss or if not they did sell off a bunch of locations a year or so ago.

I would find it hard to believe that Walmart would buy their own arcade machines!  The smart thing to do (and these guys ARE smart) is too lease the space and get a commission as well.  They will let someone else pay for the equipment, upkeep and upgrades.  Would not be surprised if some bulk guys will try to slam a machine in them.

National Entertainment Network, Inc. is the operator for Walmart's new Game Play rooms. They are the company that bought CoinStar's Entertainment/Bulk/Video Game business a few months ago. They are smart because they knew Walmart was a great account for CoinStar. They just sold a new equipment package designed to match Walmart's decor. Built a separate game room to house it rather than sticking it all in the front lobby. Everything is well placed and out of the way. Just the way Walmart likes it.
