royalforest
I am buying a box truck and was not sure if I should buy one with a lift gate or not. Thanks Rich
mxer518
I would say no, It is very hard to vend with a truck with a liftgate, I have done it and realized only after a very short time (about 3 months) that it made no sense. Unless you are moving a dozen machines a month it is a better value to just rent a truck when moving of machines are needed.
Quarter Master
IMHO, if your going to buy new,ask for a free liftgate. If your looking for used, look for one with a folding stow-away gate. This is the type I have and that gate really helps getting up and down in the truck. Half way down it acts as a step.
mxer518
it might be a nice step but its a pain to have to fold it down every time you stop, I had the same thought until I experienced it for 3 months, making 15 stops a day that means it gets folded up and down a minium of 30 times per day Times 5 days per week is about 150 times. Sparta_Automation
With the cost of rental trucks (between $50 - $100 a day)....it would take a lot of truck rentals to recover the cost. Travis
royalforest
Mxer Why do you need a rental for moving machines when you already have a box truck and a lectro truck?
mission vending
it might be a nice step but its a pain to have to fold it down every time you stop, I had the same thought until I experienced it for 3 months, making 15 stops a day that means it gets folded up and down a minium of 30 times per day Times 5 days per week is about 150 times. Not to mention wear and tear on the system and the repairs associated with that.
ANDERSONVENDING
I rented a trailer from Home Depot that lowers to ground level. It cost me $22 for 4 hours. Thats the best setup I've used so far. John
gmoney
Because I pick up pallets of product from different sources (Sam's, Restaurant Depot...) I decided to get a truck with a lift gate. The truck also has a side door which allows me to use the truck on the route. If you can find a truck with a lift gate and a side step door it can be used for dual purposes. royalforest
Stupid question but why does the side door help with the route?
lurtsman
I'm guessing he likes the side door because it makes it easier to manage product when he is going to refill machines.
gmoney
The side door is lower to the ground and it allows me to get in and out of the truck without having to use the lift gate.
royalforest
I am going to have to say Gmoney wins the debate. He has a lift gate to move machines or pick product up at Sams ect... He has the side door to vend so the liftgate does not get in the way. What do you think about that mxer and mission? Does Gman have it covered? Quarter Master
Mixer, I don't know what you had but what I was talking about is called a fold-away or stow-away lift gate at the rear of the truck. All I have to do is move a handle up or down to operate it. It's electric/hydraulic.
mxer518
That's what I had...
mission vending
It has as much to do with personal preference and our own personal experiences. I have never had a truck with a side door so I don't have that experience to share. I will admit I've thought about it, especially when I was looking at new trucks last year and wound up with the new NPR. In the end though after 13 plus years I went with what has worked best for me and my needs. So to answer your question I'll concede the point. Gmoney wins!!! royalforest
Wait!!!!! I think G money may not be the winner if you have a box truck with the lift gate underneath the truck so it does not get in your way when you want to vend. gmoney
I have found that the trucks with lift gates that go underneath the truck are very difficult to work with. At least the ones that I used to rent from Budget. The actual gate is shorter and it makes it more difficult to move a pallet off the truck. The trucks with the larger lift gates that fold up over the back door are much easier to work with. If I get a chance I will post some pictures of my truck. royalforest
Wait I won't give up yet. I am trying to find a DROP DECK trailer. This may be the winner for moving machines because you save on insurance and maintenance. It looks like 2 winners depending on preference. The cheaper way is the van with the drop deck trailer. You have to deal with a tougher time working by bending over in the van ect... Your truck wins if you are looking for a truck because you can use to vend and move machines. Please show the pictures, thanks.
ANDERSONVENDING
Go to Home Depot for the trailer, thats where I rent one frome to move machines. I just took a Dixie 276 to a location by myself, without a helper. They're $17 for a 4 hour time period. John
IVEND11
I have one like home depot and I love it I will never move a machine in a truck again it is so easy I can move machine by my self. It can hold six machines at a time you can drive a fork lift in it. We were picking up drinks with it for about 3 years. 3 full pallets of 20oz about twice a week
royalforest
Perfect IVEND! Can you give me info on the trailer. Name , model, size, extra options? Thanks
IVEND11
Its made by jlg you can go on there web site. I think the size is like 13 feet long and around 7 wide. I have only one problem with mine and its the gate on the back will pop open but that is because one of my guy took off with it one day and did not shut the gate and drove about 50 miles and it hit 3 or 4 guard rails and we lost it thanks to state workers that stand on the side of the road we got it back
royalforest
Thanks!!!!! How do you get the machines on the trailer? Do you still pick up beverages with the trailer or get them deliverd? Thanks
IVEND11
With the trailer it drops to the ground and just roll the machines on its easy I loaded 6 machines 3 crane food machines and 3 crane coffee machines with a pallet jack by my self last week the trailer makes it so easy. No I don't pick Up drinks anymore since then we have got a lot bigger and now we get a semi of it a week so no more picking up drinks
