I went into a equipment rental place today, when I walked in the first thing I noticed was a whole sea of machines. a 1800 triple, 3 vendstars, 2 single head gumballs, and an 8way terminator! If a locator sent me into a place that had an army of machines, i would turn right around and walk out! All the crap in there was stale! this 8 ways are popping up all over my target area. some one musta got biz-opped...

I have a few in my area also. They are small U-Turns. I found one in an account that only does amount $17 per month. They put the same candy items that I am selling in it. Now I have that piece of junk next to me. What's the point of staying in an low volume account like this is.

Wow, I do not know why some of you people dislike U-Turns so much.  I have 52 out and some do well enough that I have two stand in a single business (16 heads).  I do have a few 4 head u-turns out there as not every spot merits 8 heads.  I did not get "Biz Oped" but saw the machines out there and bought them used and some new.

They are not cheap machines and get noticed and will draw business away from some the junk that is out there.

I dont "hate" them. believe me, I got a bunch of vendstars! The most hated machine in vending! My point was there was literally 10 machines by the door and a brand spankin new 8way U-turn in the corner. I personally, would not want my $400 machine collecting dust at this place(assuming they did biz-op), it seems silly to me. I have one place that when I got the location I was the only one in there, now I am one of 4-5. there is one vendor who has showed up at like 5 of my stops half of them she put in a couple of the same products as me. thats my point. if you pay a locator, and you show up and the dude is like, "oh yeah, toss it in the pile over there!" wouldnt you be upset?

I say, "no thanks", unless I can offer something different. I have an okay location with SEVEN machines. I have a unique product, I imagine the other machines do poorly.

We need to keep the locator's (the ones who are left) feet to the fire about placing multiple machines from multiple operators in ONE location. Just say no!! Reject the loc.

For operators: why would anyone put the 4th or 5th machine in a location? You will not make any $ and ruin the whole deal for everyone. I located a small pizza place myself. First month great. 2nd month there is a Vendstar next to mine; 3rd month a 4 bang U-Turn and last month a Spiral Wizard GB machine ? Why? The loc will not support more than one machine. The owner doesn't speak English that well and just shrugs his shoulders. Needless to say no operator will make a dime. Moral of the story: Don't do this!!!!!!

I have a Mex Rest. that has  about 6 machines and it is one of my best locations. You never know until you try.

Like Kelly, I have one location there is a flood of machines and it does very nice.  I have label I made that says "FRESH" and "BIG HANDFULL" on the candy.  I try to make my machine look the cleanest.  It is in a family restaurant.  I am also doing bouncy balls.

This topic reminds me of a poll in the polling section (LINK BELOW) about how many machines is too many in one location. Interestingly, the majority of votes in that poll (44%) said they would place a machine anywhere, regardless of how many others are already there.  :-\

Maybe we need more participation in the poll to get more accurate results?

Hi Gary, I think I might know about that San Diego operation.  A new vending company purchased 1000 uturns.  They contacted me about locating them a little while ago.  They called me again today, they have put out about 750 in the past two months with 250 to go. They called to ask if I knew how much they should expect from one of those machines.  I told them I really had no idea.  He said they are getting about .92 a day on average.  Does that sound right to all of you?

Lets see if you add a locating fee on top of the cost of the machine, plus product, it will take awhile to become profitable on those units.  But if they continue at that rate over time it should add up.

I with Kelly you never know till you try. I have a Triple in a pet store. When I first located it I thought it would be a dud. There was a terminator sitting there with a lot of stale candy. You can always tell when the Mike & Ike are translucent. But I thought I should give it a shot. Went back in 4 weeks and pulled $75 out. Second month a Sega triple also showed up, I still pulled $70. Now this location has slowed a bit, but I have consistently pulled over $50 for the last 6 months.

If you think the location is worth having, then I would place a small (single/double) just to establish my "marker" regardless of the other machines.  Put in 2-for-1 gumballs and maybe a toy if appropriate or a high-vend quantity (10-12 pieces) of MMP and see what happens.  Many of those biz-op guys will either quit or abandon their stuff and you want to be there when that happens (and then of course set your MMP count back down).  There is very little risk if the locator has a performance guarantee - and you may be pleasantly surprised.
