More Dubble Bubble Problems!

Recommended Posts

Well, just when I thought is was safe to go back in the water....

Due to Quill dropping Ford gum, I have been testing Dubble Bubble from Sams.  At first it went OK.  Now some of those balls from newly purchased cases are hard as rocks again!  What's funny about it, is that certain colors seem to go bad faster than others.  In my case the yellow balls were either very stale (like crystallized) or almost stale (but somewhat chewable).  The pink ones are also starting to go bad and are getting harder to chew and will eventually turn to marbles.  The other 6 flavors are fine.  This topic has been on going for some time and I won't get long winded.  After talking to other vendors, it appears that DB have made some strides in improving the product, but it still has issues and has a shelf like of only 6 months (they claim 2 years!) before they either start chipping or hardening.  I would advise that you (and a friend to be safe) taste test EACH FLAVOR before putting them out.  If any are stale send it back to Sam.  Most likely the entire batch will be bad so you may need to go to another store to get a different batch.  Just amazing how a gumball company can't make good gumballs any more!

All I can say now is that I gave DB a second chance and they blew it!

Jax, the only thing I can suggest is to buy the DB's on line from Sam's and pay the extra $13.  They will be shipped directly from their facility in chicago.  Every time I order this way, they are ridiculously soft and I've had very few problems with shell cracking.  And, if you are going to go this route, you might as well pay another 3 bucks and get one of the better tasting flavors they sell in the 850 boxes.  Comes out to @ .04cents opposed to the .02 for the cheap store bought GB's.

Sam's DB gumballs are a mess. I brought back the empty case and showed the store manager all the balls that lost their outer shell. The bottom of the box was full of different color chips. He took a picture with his phone camera and told me he was sending it to his company. He acted like I was crazy complaining about a case of gumball. I haven't bought from Sam's again. You should do the same with your Sam's Club. Maybe if they hear it from enough customers they will do something about it. Quill.com still sells 850 count but they are DB and cost over $38 per case. That's ridiculous.

Here are a couple of companies that sell gumballs at a pretty good price. I don't know how much shipping would add to the price but the base price isn't to bad.

Well this explains my problems with the 2 boxes I bought from sams, they are flaking and chipping mess leaving my shootin hoops a crummy mess after a couple weeks. So I would get better if I bought off line and had them shipped to my house I think I will do that I don't want customers that have bought from my machine not buying agian because last time there gum sucked. Thanks

The problem you are having is a sign that winter is coming, once these gumballs reach freezing temps in a trailer that is not climate controlled they get as hard as a rock and loose their colorful shell. When this happens to me (which is very common in the winter months) I don't waste my time going back to sams club. Give concord confections a call and let them know the problem that you are having and they will send you replacement cases pretty much no questions asked, they just want to know some number on the box to be able to track it as a bad lot. This time last year they replaced 13 cases for me via FedEx within 72 hours.

Thanks Very much for this info. I haven't had any problems yet but this is very good to know if I do.

I can't understand why my gumballs from Sam's are chipping. I live in San Diego. The only thing I can figure is during shipment they are parking in colder states and letting the load freeze. All in all, you would think after all the years DB has been around, that they would have figured this out. Is it because Sam's is buying them for almost nothing and they don't really care.

I am going to try calling DB if I decide to try another case from Sam's club. If you have the phone number for DB, please leave it on a post.

Thanks

So the trick is to stock up at the end of summer or early fall with enough to get you through the colder months. Fortunately I haven't run into any problems yet but I am running low on GB.

OK, you just posted that they get put into freezer trucks before I posted this. Who is doing the shipping? Sam's / Wal-Mart or the supplier? If the supplier is putting them into freezer trucks knowing that they have this problem that would just be retarded......... Must be Sam's / Wal-Mart. If we all complain maybe they will do something............

I buy Oak Leaf here locally and it does get very cold, but not frozen. If I bring in to a warm spot it tastes fresh and soft in a short time. I won't let it freeze so cannot testify to what happens if it freezes. I can't imagine it is good for gum to freeze and thaw.

I told them I am a vendor and I only use their gum in my machines.  I order two boxes at a time.  I am trying to do more gum and 1" cap locations.

How much is two boxes shipped?

DB claims to have a 2 YEAR shelf life - Yea, Right!  The batch I had had a May 2009 production date, so it was just 6 months old and already going bad.  I picked up a box at two stores, one had an August 2009 date and the other a September 2009, and they were both OK.  I am also going to test Oak Leaf again.  TJ King has a discount on Oak Leaf all month.  They told me that they buy gum every week and rotate their stock.  And they even went into the warehouse to check the dates for me.  Some had September 2009 and others had October 2009 - so still very acceptable.  I also ordered some gum directly from Ford to get through the year.  I wish Sam would FIRE the Dubble Bubble people - maybe even hire The Donald to do it.  DB has had way too many second chances to get it right!
