Clifford84420
They may be trying to boost usage? Like with new coffee machines, I was recomended to set it on free for a week or two to draw people in.
BluePlate
Are they free or just free when you put $$ on a gift card?
bestchoiceproducts
In SF Bay Area they are "free" only if you put the $$ on a gift card....don't know about the expiration dates how quick the cards expire, or if there is a charge to use the cards!!! I think it's more like a debit card than a gift card....
slushie
Here they are only free for gift cards. I get an amazon code when I cash the change from my soda fridge. They have the debit cards too, but you have to get it in the mail and they charge a fee for it.
lurtsman
The gift cards, imo are pretty awful. I always despise having to use gift cards to anything but my absolute favorite place to shop (panda express. GIMME MORE ORANGE CHICKEN!!!)
Bender
I've used Coinstar for my pocket change before. I converted about $40 of pocket change to an Amazon gift card. I do shop Amazon sometimes. The Amazon gift card expired 18 months from the date of issue. Then, I sat on the gift card (actually, a Coinstar receipt with a redemption code on it) for 17 months. Close to expiration, I went to my Amazon account, and found the link to "redeem gift certificate". I entered my Coinstar code, and VOILA, $40 balance in my Amazon account. I used it to buy direct from Amazon, and also to buy from Amazon Marketplace sellers. I used it here and there, and 12 months later, long after the original expiration, I still have a few dollars in there. I'm not saying I'd use Coinstar to count my route's revenue, not that they could handle that many quarters. I'm saying that since I occasionally shop Amazon, conveniently turned a drawer of loose change into some books or videos I wanted, and gifts for friends and family.
