Iolaus
Anyone have machines in 7-11 type convenience stores? Anyone want to share how many heads you have in a store, what you're selling, and how it's doing? It doesn't seem like an ideal location for candy, obviously, but anyone think something like a gumball/superball double might do well? I might have an insider with a company that owns over 40 convenience stores.
whaletail116
I've always thought the same questions. I know they sell a lot of gum in packages at gas stations but I always thought a gumball machine by the door would do really well. It would be much more of an impulse buy and there are a lot of transactions that take place throughout the day at a gas station that involve quarters. Someone buys a soda and gets 37 cents in return. "Hey, I'll buy a gumball on my way out the door."
sherlock
I've called on a few and had no luck. It seems they were against my selling candy or small toys since that's something they themselves already sell. Although I agree with whaletail 100%. I see customers spending money in the machines that they were NOT going to spend at the convenience store anyway. But, in all honesty, I think I've only called on about 3 or 4 convenience store locations. So, I don't think I've given it a fair shake.
Mercury
Stickers and toys would be the angle here........NOT candy! Find something they DON'T sell, and you are more likely to get in the door. Merc
kai1836
There is a chain of stores in my area that have single gumball heads right at the door. It says 100% of the proceeds go to special olympics. Every 60 days or so they are empty. Somebodys doing well.
Hillbilly
Not disputing it but how could someone do that? It would have to be the Special Olympics doing it IMO. Are there charity organizations that do that?
kai1836
Don't know who it is but I suspect 100% isn't going to the special olympics. They're in sheetz. I can't recall if you have sheetz in your area but if you do go in and look. I noticed them in there abiout 5 months ago. I brought it up as an example that you could probably do well vending gumballs in a convenience store, this individual is.
Jax Snacks
I have two of them - one commission, one charity. They do average, but not great. They are difficult to get into. Almost impossible to get into the corporate ones like 7-11. Sometimes you can get into an independently owned one, but you will most likely have to pay a commission, Most independent convenience stores are owned by Asians (Indians) - and Asian cultures generally do not support charities. The can also be decent for sticker/tattoos. Space is also an issue and you need a compact machine to fit in a small space. Jax
tooldini
I talk with the owner of 2 party story/carry outs and he has double head candy machines in both. He says he has to fill them every other week. I talk with another store owner that has rocket ship gumball machine and I have seen it in action many times LOL Another party store in my town has a triple head and gumball machine. He tells me they do very very well so I would love to get a partystore location in my town. When I go to a partystore I may buy some pop, chips and candy bar, but may just want a handfull of skittles on the way out.
antoniocinisi
I recently put a 4 way uturn with gumballs, bouncy balls skittles and seamania in it next to a rack with all toys.I havent serviced it yet but it may not be the best since it is a shared location.profit margins will be high and it is close to my house.like all locations it just depends
tooldini
You may be surprised,, so keep us posted in this one. I have noticed the machines at the party stores near me haven't been looking to good lately. I wonder if sometime they will just stop and maybe I could buy there machines and keep them there. I think it may get to be a bother for them sometimes.
sweetstop
I had one in a convenience store a while back before I sold my route and it did surprisingly well ($20-$30 / 6 weeks) I was not going to place it because I thought it was a bad idea but my locator at the time, secured it for me
T BIRD
I have a bunch of convenience stores. They score average at best. I think people go to a convenience store for chips, milk, cigs, and candy bars. Period.
whaletail116
Are these just C-stores or gas stations as well?
