JEREMYTINA
We have been doing bulk vending for a while now, and an opportunity came up for us to do full line. We have one location that wanted a small combo machine in it, we wound up going with a used 2007 Gaines vm-750 that we picked up used for $1000. The machine only had 400 vends from it before it was put into storage. The guy was a victim of a biz op, but the machine is like brand new. It has a DBA in it that will accept ones now, and can be set to accept older fives, but I was wondering if it is worth it do get one that accepts new $5's and then sell the one I have in it now. If I accept fives, what does that do to the amount of change needed to keep the machine working correctly? Any ideas on where I can get one in Tampa FL area? The company that made all of the electronics is PC Manufacturing in NJ.
coinvestor
I would not accept $5's without paying out $1 coins in the changer or you will run your quarters out. This makes the switch even more expensive (than just a DBV) since your changer would need to be upgraded. I don't think I would make the investment for a combo machine as the volume would not be significant. JD
G-Vending
All my snack machines takes $5 bills..If they have say four dollars in change more than likely they will spend more or drop some in the soda machine..I do not get a lot of $5 bill's but it is there if they want it. boldandmodern
What type of volume is the account doing? I have it set up do accept $5 at some of my accounts not all.
mission vending
I would not upgrade a low volume account unless the current DBV dies. To solve the problem with running out of quarters without replacing the mech you can put change for $5 in a small coin envelope, then put it in a candy selection and price it at $5. You can buy a lot of change envelopes for the price of a coin mech.
qualityvs
Dang mission vending I really like that thought! I personally dont use the $5 option because I kept having the problem of $5 getting by me. The lady at the bank would call me and say I found "X" $5 in your ones so I credited your account. I only wonder how many times I didnt get a call. Any of yall guys using bill counters that will seperate the bills? Maybe I need to update my counter.
Sparta_Automation
Those types of counters are expensive....but I guess it depends on how much currency you have to sort. I picked up a counter on Ebay for about $70. It will detect counterfit, but will not differentiate between 1's and 5's. Travis

IVEND11
Every large account I have the food snack coffee and glassfront will take 1 2 5 10 and 20 dollar bills and receive the gold dollar back as change. I love it I have about 40 bill changers in my shop from the company I took over 3 years ago to me bill changers are a waste of time to much money laying in machines and it causes workers to be lazy. When I took that company over just about every stop had 2 to 3 bill val that didn't work oin the machines because the bill changer works its ok to leave a machine there only taking coins and drivers would never check toe coin mechs in the machines and if there not checking them its use correct change

JD I used to think we would run out of quarters if we let the bill val take 5's, but I decided to try it on a few machines a while back. Turns out it is not really a problem. In fact, in addition to making customers happy and increasing sales (no I did not do a scientific study to prove, but just stands to reason that I get a few extra sales from people who don't have 1's on them) it has the bonus of having to deal with fewer coins. For every 100 $1's I get I problably get 5 or so $5's. I get so many quarters in the base case at most customers that there rarely is a problem with low quarters. George Gulp-It! JEREMYTINA
Thanks for all of the input. Over the last couple of weeks I haven't had any complaints about the machine not taking fives so I think we are going to stick with what he have for now. The validator actually accepts fives and tens from 2006 and before. The coin changer is a coinpro3 and holds 2 rolls of qdn in each tube give or take. I haven't had any issues with needing change, the tubes have all stayed full since the initial loading of them. This is working so far, and the place has a cash register, and can make change on request to anyone that might need it. It certainly has been a different experience collecting money and refilling the machine compared to the bulk machines we own. If the pace stays where it's at with this machine, I should have my $1000 investment back from profit on the machine by the end of the year. I think we may try and stick with can only in the future, as this machine would be a pain in the rear anywhere else due to low capacity. Plus, cans seem to have a decent shelf life, and are very easy to load.

nosebreaker
I only own one machine, it's at my laundromat. If I could take $5's and dish out more quarters I'd take the opportunity! Then again, I have a "quarter problem". I'm always going to the bank with extra quarters!
