caserri
I just wanted to let everyone know that VENDiscuss will be observing Earth Hour 2010 by going offline for 1 hour on Saturday, March 27, at 8:30pm EST. For more information on Earth Hour, click the banner above or visit www.earthhour.org.
jamesjmcgough
Please celebrate Earth Hour responsibly! Nine months after last years Earth Hour Celebration, the hospitals here in Costa Rica were deluged with baby deliveries. In many cases, paternity unknown. Condom sales were flat. caserri
Wow, Kind of defeats the purpose huh? Same some energy but increase the long term demand for the planets resources!
jamesjmcgough
Selfishly, on the other hand....sure helps to increase my customer base. Should I be vending 1-2-or 3 lightening bugs per capsule to offset the additional carbon footprints?
whaletail116
Two should be sufficient.
dperry
Never heard of earth hour. Heard of Earth Day of course, but not earth hour.
WillisNYC
As a total denier of global warming, I refuse to acknowledge any day or hour put forth by the unproven followers of the religion of global warming. The same goes for any silly gestures to 'save' any energy that I worked long and hard to purchase with my own dollars.
antoniocinisi
YOU DONT LIKE TO SAVE MONEY?
mxer518
YOU DONT LIKE TO SAVE MONEY? I cant think of a good reason to save money, spend more money and enjoy the benefits of capitalism at its finest!
antoniocinisi
imo it`s even more sillier to waste money by not shuting off lights in rooms not being used and keeping that hard earned money in your pocket instead of some corporate fat cats.maybe willis will understand this better:if you just switch a regular light bulb in a couple of rooms in your house into one of those spirals you will save enough money to get at least 1 free super 60 a year, minimum.more for you since you like to waste electricity. WillisNYC
Those crazy gdamn spirally bulbs will not fit in half of the fixtures of my house, nor do I like the light that they give off. I truly resent the government intrusion in my life that mandates that perfectly acceptable bulbs that I like will not even be available to purchase in the near future. This will cause me to retrofit and probably replace 4 wonderful ceiling fans with lights and two hanging 'chandeliers' that cannot fit these new, stupid gd bulbs. In New Jersey they are also outlawing the plastic bags that you get in the grocery store at the end of the year. This is another example of the overreaching, overbearing nanny state instruding in my life and making decisions for me that frankly, they have no right to make. These are only two small reasons that I will vote for a tea party candidate at every level come November and if they do not run someone, then I will vote GOP. The Dems are truly f'ing up this nation beyond belief!
antoniocinisi
they have minis that fit almost anywhere with the same output.they also have differant types that give off differant kind of light.
Rustinm
get led's they are more expensive but they work awsome, much better than spirals, and uses way less power than the spirals too, but i agree the gov have thier fingers in way too much when they cant even handle whats on their plate now. The Mage
Well global warming is a complete fraud. (Okay, 95% fraud.) Humans are responsible for a total of 3% of the CO2 that goes into the atmosphere. And that includes breathing. Kyoto has benefited the world by reducing the temperature by 0.008º C by 2050. And it has only cost the world $780 Billion. Many people do not know that the temperature increase from an increase of CO2 is logarithmic. That means that it takes more and more to cause the same increase in temperature. Right now we are above 500 ppm, and it would take 9,000 ppm for the warming effect to be doubled. With all the "climategate" emails released (by a hacker) that shows manipulation of data, destruction of research data that disagrees with global warming opinions, and the attempt to marginalize any scientist that disagreed with their position, you would think everybody would take a second look at global warming. Earth day was started on April 22, 1970. That day was chosen specifically because it was the 100th birthday of Vladimir Lenin. That being said, I have changed all my lights to the compact fluorescent bulbs, (a full year before Al Gore did,) and have noticed my electric bill go down enough to more then pay for those bulbs. I can barely notice the change, and they do not act like the full size bulbs. They take about half a second to come on, but they burn steady, without any flickering. Plus I remember lights burning out all the time, and while these do burn out, maybe quicker then advertised, they do seem to last much longer. And I would love to switch over to LED's, but I think the cost needs to come down more.

WillisNYC
Well said Mage, and if you want a reasonable, unbiased look at the facts surrounding global warming, a surprising source is the book written by Michael Crichton, State of Fear. He takes an unbiased look at the facts surrounding global warming in this 'thriller' that is every bit as readable as Jurassic Park. He also provides tons of source material for anyone wanting to seriously investigate and rebut global warming.
