Steve,

Have you considered trimming back none contributing members from this site? I know when you first started you wanted and needed good members numbers. I have belonged to several none yahoo vending sited that all withered and died. This is the only one I know of that has stuck. I do believe however that this site is limited due to the huge number of none contributing members (lurkers). People are afraid to post to much. Just a thought.

Coming and going is the nature of the vending business.  Folks will get all hyped up on vending and then for what ever reason they  just wither away.  I think its because its so easy to get a few mchines up and going.  Then they just give up and poof their gone.  But if their being on the mebership list dosent hurt why bother it.

I am sure there are probably a large number of members who haven't haven't made a post in the last 2 years or so and probably never will. But we would also have to keep in mind the folks who are on here and disappear for a couple of months and do come back (like me). If the non-participating members are negatively impacting Steve or this forum, by adding costs, then if Steve sees fit, I see nothing wrong with deleting old unused accounts.

By contributing member I mean posting good info. No I am not a supporting member of this site. That isnt to say I wouldnt be. I have also left this site for a month or two at a time so I wouldnt want the time to be short. Right now there are over 2000 members on this site. Im not wanting to get into a big debate. Just throwing it out there.

Big Mike is a very respected member of this board and I value his "contributions" as I value everyone elses. He is also one of our earliest members, he's been here since 2007. He doesn't deserve to have any fingers pointed at him for any reason. The fact that he even brings up this question shows his desire to better this site.

This topic shouldn't be one to start a debate. It is a valid question that comes up from time to time and one that I do struggle with myself at times.

For now, I am going to stand by my initial thoughts about this. Here is an excerpt from my post in the other thread on this subject...

"House Cleaning" of inactive members... ...the larger the number next to the words "Number of registered users", the more likely a visitor to the site will actually sign up for membership. How many times have you been to other forums, vending or not, where you would look to see how many members they had before you took the time to sign up? It is the first thing I look at before I waste my time signing up, then posting a question only to have it never answered because the site only had 5 registered  members. These are just two ways that these non active members help us, all while doing nothing that could hurt us.

By the way, I've moved this to the break room.

Hopefully, some of those "noncontributors" will one day become contributing members. They certainly won't if we kick 'em out of the club.

my .02

why would you think that a member that has no posts would just start posting one day?they can sign up again if they want to in the future if they want if they get axed.

I have always been for the cleaning house.being gone months at a time and comeing back is one thing, but never posting or not posting anything in a year is a good sign that member isn`t contributeing much nor probably will.

If at least 20 or so people get deleted, will cavity have to give up his prize for guessing the right date on the member # 2000 contest?

HAHAHAHAHA!

Just yanking everyone's chain.

Steve's excerpt has already done a great job of showing how even "non-contributing" members of this forum contribute.

So, in actuality, there's no such thing as a "non-contributing member".

The very act of registering and adding to the "number of registered members" list is a contribution in itself.
