fogcity
Does anyone here currently use the Northwestern "Tempo" stands for their single &/or double head setups? How does it compare to the standard pipe stand style?
Iolaus
I'm new to the business and decided after reading several posts on here that I'm going to use the Tempo stands. I recently ordered five from Sam's. They were easy to assemble and easy to attach machines or double brackets to them. Right now I have my first five ready to go, three doubles and two singles, all Beaver heads, and they seem very solid and stable. These are my first machines so I can't really say how they compare to a standard pipe stand. I would imagine they're much lighter, though.

joebob051977
For singles and doubles IMHO I think Tempo stands are the way to go. Locations which warrant 3 heads and not a rack are few and far in-between.I have had Tempo stands which the poles for the legs were about 1/2" different, but sliding the bracket up a little took care of the issue. sherlock
Never used tempo stands, but just to present an alternative: Pipe stands through A&A only cost about $1 more than the tempo. The A&A stands have the round-base. I'm sure they provide better stability than the tempo because it's heavier. The heavier the base, the less top-heavy your set-up will be. I have set-up triples using 3 Oak 450's and the A&A stand is still as stable as when I set it up with a single machine. I've heard that this is not possible with the tempo --- but, again, no PERSONAL experience here. But, I can say without a doubt, that I have no issues when putting 3 heads on an A&A stand. The A&A pipe stands are available at either 24" or 30" heights for the same price. So you have options not available with the tempo. The shipping will be a little more through A&A than for the tempo through Sams, but this is not A&A's fault. The pipe stands are heavier -- thus the extra shipping charge. It's about $15 more for 10 stands, $25 more for 20 stands...at least to my address. So, not a HUGE difference when factoring cost per piece. Extra charge for shipping because of weight is cool with me -- I like that the A&A stands are heavy. Stands are not one of my purchases where I'm looking for something "light".
