Nothing Runs like a Deere

I just wanted to share my John Deere experience. 10 years ago I bought a JS60 John Deere walk behind mower. I took a lot of flack for spending an extra $100 or so for a John Deere instead of some lawn mower I could've picked out at Sears, but to this day it is still running quite well. I would love to get a riding lawn mower since I now have a bigger yard than I used to. But I am stubborn and after fighting to get this lawnmower, I won't get another lawn mower until it dies. I told my wife when I bought this mower that it would probably last 20 years, and I just got the ol', "Yeah right." My mower isn't showing much slowing down, and I am beginning to believe myself, this lawn mower might actually last 20 years.

I guarantee it would last 40 years here in Costa Rica. The first thing they would do with it is remove the blade, cut it in half and put a handle on each half. They would be the proud owner of two 'machetes' to cut my grass. Surprisingly few lawn mowers here in CR. My gardner just looked at me with a grin when I took him to the shed to show him our new Toro. Never been started after almost a year. Our small lawn rivals most well manicured in the states.

Oh, and BTW, oil is 8 bucks a quart and gasoline almost $5. My neighbor/gardner Carlos... 12-16 hours a month...16 bucks and a max of two beers per visit.

Run it untill it wears out and then give it to me. in almost thirty years of owning houses I have never bought a lawn mower. The one I currently have was given to me by a guy I knew who said "if you can get it to run its yours" That was six years ago. BTW I have about 3/4 of an acre to cut and I have an old Craftsman in the shed that needs a little TLC waiting for the current one to crap out.

But hey, its like vending machines, people like me need people out there buying new machines so we have something to fix up and bring back from the dead.LOL

  • 4 weeks later...

Just to stand apart from the crowd...I have a self propelled 6HP Yardman, that has been running great for 10 years so far, and looks like it will last another 10 with no problem.  Bought a MTD rider 4 years ago and it still looks and runs like new as well.  Only needed one belt and a battery for it.

How does a person become a CUB fan and then remain one?

It's kind of a self loathing thing for me personally....Every year, they tease, they get get my hopes up, and it all comes crashing down....I recover in the off season, just to do it all over again....and again....and again...you get the point..

my lawn mower has a twin spark 2 cylinder 8 valve with over head cams engine.it has extra wide tires for added traction and cornering abilty, enhanceing it`s zero turn abilities.it has active suspension to help absorb all lawn imperfections, while it further enhances handleing capabilities. electric power steering helps navigate around trees, while the stability control makes sure everything is going as they should while zig zaging through the yard.man my lawn mower is soooo coool

are you cutting the grass or qualifiying at Indy

Sounds like your getting loose coming off the turns, I would add a round of wedge, take out a spring rubber and drop down a pound on the right side
