jamesjmcgough
Two and a half years ago, my wife(Diane) and I decided to chuck our careers (and stress) and partake a driving journey from Colorado to South America. We spent 3 months transversing all of Central America on the road less travelled. That being not the major route south but the lesser travelled roads where we we could meet those who have never encountered a Toyota Tacoma with roof rack and crazy gringos who did not speak a lick of Spanish but smiled a lot and were exhuded a love of life wherever we ended up. We asked permission to camp in their yards, were welcomed in for dinner and breakfast with their families. They shared with us their meager resources, they shared with us their tenacious ability to fix our mechanical breakdowns. They protected us from disaster in the form of kidnappers, those who would hold us safe from kidnappers, druglords and who knows what. We ended up in Costa Rica and eventually ended up in the vending business. Much the same as many of you here on this forumn have ended up in the vending business. We have a story to tell about our journey. I am still working on that draft. Meanwhile 'back at the ranch', I was thinking I might offer a diversion from a friend of mine(intentional expat) that many of you may enjoy: Andy is a great amateur videographer and I am sure you will enjoy what he has produced. You can also live vicariously thru his websie: www.boomersoffshore.com Enjoy!!

jamesjmcgough
I have done that! Subscribe to Alaska Magazine and also get Milepost. I dreamed about the trans-alaska for years before I actually was able to realize my dream. This will be a trip you will never forget. And what a great experience for kids. Don't wait until they have left the nest. Drag 'em by hook, crook and sinker. Feed them moose gravy and fries. They will never let you forget the trials and tribulations you made them endure. Done it twice, second time hitching rides with crazy bush pilots. Canadiens have a sick sense of humor when it comes to eco-tourism.
