Slow Movers

Hey guys I think we can all agree that we have all came across our share of some real bad sellers.

Fast moving candy is predictable just stick to the basic and you will do fine, but is their any bulk candy or gumball or even toy that you could recommend someone who's new to the business to stay away from?

I think it might be easier to say what sells good; MMP; M&I, RP's, SKITTLES; TRAIL MIX; CASHEWS; GB'S, HOT TAMALES (just ok) and MM( just ok). That is what I keep on hand for my candy route; others might have more or less. You really have to test things for your area and each location. Remember, with candy IMO less inventory is best. Find out what works and stick with it. Same goes for toys.

Our best sellers are M&I, and DB 850, the worst sellers are probably RP.  We have PMM in some locations, but Florida is quite warm and all of the chocolate seems to turn funky or crack after a very short time of a couple of weeks.

Jeremy, I don't know whether you can get them in Florida for sure, but we use Best de Guatemala botonetas(M&M's) and they hold up very well here in the neo- tropics. They export to CR in 10kg(22#) cases and I would certainly bet they have a US importer who could supply you in Florida. They also have a foil wrapped solid chocolate ball which vends quite nicely. Your import duties should be much less than what I am paying. My turn is now equivalent to about 20 US cents and we still are able to make a decent profit. Email me offline if you want contact info for the manufacturer in Guatemala. They will hook you up with their Master US importer. I am sure much of your Hispanic market is very familiar with the product.

when I get stuck with a slow moveing toy I either put money in capsules and write a note that says win a 1 or 5.I put about 5 ones and a 5.I put at least one cap at the very bottom front rightish of the northwestern machine so they see its there but wont move for a while.most of the time the money won goes back in the machine.doing this with money isn`t always possible,so I buy a gift certificate from the place and put it in the bottom too.this is a newer technique for me but should work similarly well as with the money.

Foofnicks and also the Heros and Villans 2in figurines from S&B were horrible sellers for me.  I couldn't give those away.

The 2in Mini-Malz are horrible as well.

The 1in squishy balls and the spikey balls from A&A were pretty bad for me too.

I was at a location yesterday that had a crane machine with equivalent $2.00 to $10.00 bills safety pinned to the stuffed toys. First time I have seen that here in Costa Rica. Of course, if they knew how those cranes were adjusted for sensitivity, they would rather 'smash and grab'.

I have tried it in 1.1" caps on my last service rotation. We will see if  it improves my TPD sometime next week when we start our next service cycle.

A&A's Patron Saint Medals in 2 inch are awful.  The accounts that usually sell the religious stuff hardly sold any of them. Into the mix they go !

I'm finding that if it is one of those hybrid products that they sell in both 1in and 2in, do not under any circumstances buy it for sale in 2in capsules.  It would be much better to sell them for 50c in the 1in caps.

One thing I thought about doing with slow moving 2in product is to double it up and sell 2-for-1.  But that only works with the small items that can also fit in 1in caps.  This might work well for the mini-malz, saints medals, adopt-a-puppy, or even the monkeys.
