jmac
Are you doing charity or commision? If you are not having luck with charity try offering commission to the location. Here is a link to a method that might work for you http://vendiscuss.com/forum/index.php?topic=781.0 I would also suggest reading the locating scripts and trying different approaches Also don't get down on yourself, just keep trying. I only have a success rate of 1 in 10 businesses saying yes. My greatest success is from people I know that own businesses. I have placed 6 machines, just through people I know. Hope this helps and good luck.
caserri
In my experience, locating charity is far more difficult than locating commission machines. Locations around here have a pre-conceived notion that a charity machine is a scam and usually want no part of it. I can counter their objections with, "Well, if you are uncomfortable with a charity machine, I can offer a commission payment directly to you. That way you can do what you want with your cut, donate it or keep it." They will most likely keep it but at least you get the location. Try it, I'm sure you will have a much better success rate when you offer them the money.

Look into kickstart locations. Yes, they do cost quite a bit. However, they get good locations. I had a friend who thought he couldn't afford it. Found out locating was tough. Started working extra hours and decided to pay KS to get it done. In most cases you'll have your locating fee back within 3 months.
sherlock
Matthew, Keep plugging away. You can use a locator to help get some machines out the door. But don't use them as a crutch. Keep locating for yourself. WORK at locating as if there is no such thing as locating companies that can do it for you. If you don't, you may never stop getting flustered on your sales calls. And that could be fatal to your business. You CAN NOT rely on locators to do the majority of the work for you. You will be disappointed...no matter how good the locating company is. Even the BEST locating company on this forum can not be your primary source of locations if you want to earn anything more than a little side money. mission vending
Well said Sherlock. BTW, I did enjoy our lunch a few weeks ago. Need to do it again sometime, my turn to buy.
mainor5251
If you can afford Kickstart use them and get the restaurant/bar upgrade, several of my KS locations paid for themselves in 2 months. Don't sweat locating its gonna get easier, load up a couple machines when you got a whole day to dedicate to locating and just tell yourself your not coming home til you get these machines out the car. When I first started I found myself getting discouraged early on and going home but like one of the previous post said "keep pluggin away at it". Last time I went locating I got 7 in one day. I'm going again the first week of April and my goal is gonna be 20 locations in 1 day

sherlock
BTW, I did enjoy our lunch a few weeks ago. Need to do it again sometime, my turn to buy. Hey, thanks. I enjoyed it too. You know how to reach me -- just let me know when/where. Hey Agape, I've got one more thing to add. Have you searched through this forum for the thread(s) on locating methods? I think there's at least one thread wherein people posted what works and what doesn't work for them as they locate. Try different methods to see what works FOR YOU. Above all, don't be a phony when making the sales calls. You CAN use other people's methods and STILL be yourself. Just take other people's methods and tweak them to fit your personality. BluePlate
Matt, My best suggestion seems like you might be trying too hard. Try going into a store and acting like Donald Trump. Here are a couple "lines", change them up to make them feel more natural for yourself. "Hi, may name is_________ and I place vending machines for profit. I have one left to place that we can both make money on, I'm going to place it today and I thought this would be a good place" (You create an a "need" and "urgency" on for them to say yes.....it puts the idea in their mind "I can be the one to take the last one") "Hi, I'm going to give you an opportunity to make some extra money and I will do all the work" (explain the vending) and then ask "Do you want me to put it there (and point) or there (and point to another location). This set them up to only answer yes. Never ask "Do you want it?" because that gives them the chance to answer no. Use other examples of locations like theirs that have vending machines. "Joe's Pizza has a machine like this, sort of, mines a little better" "Mr Merchant, do you know children often make the decision when a family goes out to eat? Do you know why they choose McDonalds? THE TOY! It's not because they have awesome burgers......" Give them the toy without it costing you a dime. "OK.....I'm in the vending business and I only have a few machines left, can I ask you a few questions to see if you qualify for a machine?" "How many customers do you see a day?" "What age groups are they in?" "What is there average wait time for food?" (This one my take a real straight face)
