lurtsman
I've looked at walmart's site and the few options they have don't seem to be available in store. I was hoping to get this done today. I was looking at bike chains. For anyone else doing a chain down, what do you use? I want it to be very strong, and it must require a key. I don't like combination locks in locations where people have enough unobserved time to systematically work through it--especially if there are only 10,000 combinations. (A 6 digit combination lock would be considered for having 1 million options)
BluePlate
Bever makes an anchoring kit. It's a cable with a hoop on each end. comes with a wall anchor and two locking c-clips. But I think you could make your own from a hardward store.
lurtsman
Would something like this work? http://www.amazon.com/Kryptonite-Kryptoflex-Looped-Bicycle-Security/dp/B000NORUJW/ref=sr_1_99?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1273349504&sr=1-99 Clearly I'd need to have a lock also. Is that thick enough? If they come in with 3 foot long chain cutters there isn't much I can do, but this seems like it would stop the garden variety crackhead. Faith Vending
If the theives REALLY want your machine a walk in vault would not do. I use a strong chain link with a key lock; enough to deter the bas%!!@#$$#s.
will.vend
lowe's. home depot or most hardware stores sell chain by the foot. I usually by about 20 ft at the time and cut it to length on site, but you would need a bolt cutter. you can also buy a pack of 4 locks so you would have the same key. Faith Vending
Good idea on the key being the same will; I have not anchored one down yet so no help there.
havending
At both lowes and homedepot you can buy un cored master locks the key blank comes with it so you can core it to what ever cut you want.
BluePlate
I agree, if they want it, they will get it...... I would anchor into a wall stud if they will let you. I like cable, like the link about, it looks better then chain. If you want to get really good drill into the concrete floor with a hammer drill and drop an anchor. lurtsman
Decided I didn't want to go to the length of drilling. I used a 3/8 inch 7 foot steel chain, looping it very tightly around the stationary piece. I put a very strong lock on there that we bought nearly 3 years ago for moving across country. (We used it to lock our pod shut) I expect this location to do extremely well, and plan to add a rack shortly. I appreciate all the great ideas in this thread. Hillbilly
I've got one location where the competition has a triple in a large flower pot that has concrete poured in it. It must weigh 150 lbs. I've not had any problems there but he must have.
