Service call

Got a phone call this evening regarding the double I placed at the hardware store a week ago.

Both mechanisms are jammed up. I'd say someone has put cardboard in them. or some taped up coins.

I have tommorrow off and will check them out early.  At least she called.

I have come to despise it when they don't call.  I had a bent quarter stuck in a mech at a busy restaurant on my last service.  The guy running the kitchen came out to tell me how upset the kids had been for the last two weeks, and that he wanted the machine changed out so that he didn't have to worry about any more problems.  I clearly explained when I dropped the machine off that if there were ever a problem, to call the number on the machine and I would be out to repair the problem same day....I am sure I lost out on $10-15 in sales from it.  Hopefully no problems this month.

I see a lot of racks with out of order signs taped on the machines.  I guess some people just think that is the way to deal with it. Instead of calling the vendor.

You know, actually, this was my first location that I put a service label on.  I have since printed plenty and will put them on all my machines.  So maybe I was lucky that I did.

dont you just love the astonished look they give you when you remind them your service # is on the machine. :o

Yea, pretty amazing isn't it?  I once had a guy ask for some contact info in writing in a place I had been in for many months.  I told him that my number is on the machine and he can call any time to leave a message.  He paused for a moment and said. "Oh, I never though about looking on the machine for a phone number"!

To quote the blue collar comedian, Ron White, "You can't fix stupid"!

I installed a machine with a coin mech that broke shortly after the first day. It was a two month service cycle. The owner didn't even complain, but I saw the low sales and thought "this can't be right" and tried to buy the toy. (The handle still jiggled, it wasn't until you tried to buy that the mech failed.) Since I didn't have the tools for that repair at the moment, I told them I'd return the next day and fix it. They also asked me to change the bouncy balls. Note for people who have buffet locations. "Super balls" are known as "salad balls" for being bounced into the dressing. I was surprised he had not called to ask.

I just got back from this service call.

The problem with the first head was not the coin mech after all. I am vending Tangy Tarts in this one.  The metal adjuster wheel creates a little notch when opened all the way.  A piece of the candy turned sideways and got stuck in that notch because of the size. I moved the adjuster until the notch was over the plastic wheel.

The other head had a problem with the coin mech.  I'm not sure but the quarter stayed in the coin carrier and would go round and round.  This is one of them that I modified. I pulled it and put another in it's place.  I'll take it apart and find out what the problem was.

I took the coin mechanism apart and discovered what happened.

The raised portion that I filed down prevents the coins from going back around.  I posted pictures when I converted .05 and .10 mechanisms to the .25 coin carrier.  I filed some of these down.  This particular one I filed all of it off and discovered that the coins would keep going around.  I tagged it for repair and kept going.  I tagged the wrong one and put this one in a mechanism.  The tabs on the .05 and .10 mechanism's will allow the nickel and dime to eject from the carrier but using the quarter it has to be filed a little.  Hope that explains. it.  Here is a picture. I am pointing at it with the screwdriver.  This one is done correctly.
