The Mage
Some of the cell phone companies offer modems that run off their wireless service. And actually some cell phones can be used as modems. (Haven't done it myself.)
mainor5251
Update: Checked around for service providers and found none that provide service where I live at least when it comes to cable, DSL, or the fiber optic service. The only options where I'm currently located is to tether computer to cell phone for service or through satellite service. Satellite is not an option because of cost, I swear now that I know what hughs net charge, I'm convinced they should have a proctologist in all there commercials. So its probably back to dial up after I address the original problem with modem.
mainor5251
Turns out its the modem talked to someone else that had the same problem I'm having and getting the same messages and it turned out that there modem got fried during a storm. Just got to find a cheap.

The Mage
Make sure your computer is on a surged protector. Lightning took out one of mine about a decade ago.

mainor5251
Went to office depot and asked sales guy for a cheap internal modem, got home and went to installing it a noticed the box says desktop pci adapter - connect your pc to a wired network. So my question is, is this what I needed is this a modem or just an adapter that would be used in network in conjuction with a router?
NinnJinn
ummm, I don't believe you have the right item. but yet, I may be wrong. Will your phone line fit it?
NorthTXVending
Hello Mainor...sounds like a standard network adapter which would have a RJ45 port. This would be used to connect your pc directly to a LAN. (router/hub/switch/etc).
