lurtsman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act I would encourage anyone who enjoys unrestricted internet access to write or call their senators and representative and tell them what you think of this bill. I feel it is an assault on our rights as Americans and a thinly veiled attempt to create American Imperialism that would further damage international relations and muddy the reputation of our country. The intent of the bill is to allow the U.S. courts to rule against transactions that 1. Take place in a foreign country and 2. Involve no Americans. This is the anti-thesis of freedom and an assault on the sovereignty of foreign countries and their right to function under their own law. I understand interventionist policy to prevent the creation of weapons of mass destruction. You don't give a hot headed teenager a grenade, or allow him to get one by other means. However we are not intervening to protect human rights of victims in cases of legalized crime. Instead this bill would just be about allowing the U.S. courts to create financial impositions on transactions in which we have no authority. The result would be allowing the government to black out sites that do not follow their rules. This is a path to oppression. It is being financed by a media industry that believes it could increase revenue while externalizing the cost onto the rest of America. PS. While the government is considering reducing the bill, they are also BSing the public saying they have "Fixed all the complaints". Clearly that is not the case, and I can not support any politician who pushes this lie to the people who elected them.
