Yea you have to have Excel installed on your computer in order to open XLS files. There is an alternative though. Microsoft has free "Excel Viewer" software that you can download. It will allow you to open Excel files to "read only". You will not be able to edit them.

I give you, and anyone else reading, this info because there are many XLS files in the tools section here at VENDiscuss. You'll either need a multi-hundred dollar version of MS office or this FREE download of "viewer" to see them.

You can also use open office for Free!  I started using open office after my Office for Vista would make any file pretty much unusable on any other computer.  Why doesn't someone add the Northwestern price list to the others on the forum anyway?
