Candy Wheels and 850 count

Workman Vending

Recommended Posts

I've bought a bunch of machines lately and every single one of them has had a candy wheel and most of those have been used to vend 24mm gumballs.  Since every manufacturer out there recommends different wheels for gumballs, I'm wondering if I really need to track down gumball wheels for every machine I buy or if I can just use the candy wheels for the time being.

Do the candy wheels really misvend 850 count that often?

I put some gumballs in a Seaga Millenium and did a bunch of test vends and the only problem I saw was the gumballs getting "stuck between the front of the brush housing instead of falling down into the wheel where they can vend.   Other than that there wasn't a single misvend.

On the other hand maybe that's the reason these folks are selling their machines.  They're using the wrong wheels and having too many problems. ;)

I'd advise against using 850 count in candy wheels. While I'm sure you can take out the portion controller to make it big enough to fit 850 count, the odds of it vending properly for any length of time are slim to none. The weight and shape of gum causes it to readily jam in it's container and at the wheel- which is why pretty much every gum wheel in existence has stir arms of some nature. I've never seen candy wheels with these, and I can't think of a way that you could add a stir function to it without it being WAY more trouble than it's worth. In the end, if your machines are malfunctioning for any length of time, your customers (and the location) won't be happy with you for long. Also consider that if it were in any way visible that you were putting gum in candy wheels, that would make you a prime target for other operators, as it'd be easy to pitch the location on a machine that won't jam as much.

Gum wheels for most 'stock' machines are a couple bucks on eBay if you look around a bit. I'm sure there are plenty of operators here on the TVF that would be willing to cut you a good deal on whatever you might need. In this business, there are a lot of places to save a few bucks and cut corners, but this definitely isn't one of them.

If you have machines that don't have "stock" wheels readily available (Vendstar, 1800, U-Turn, Ultravend, Evervend, etc.) stick with the 1080/1640 gumballs in a candy wheel instead. It'll save you tons of money and grief in the long run.

This is about what I figured.  With that being said, I am in need of gumball wheel and brush housing setups for 1x oak vista and (up to) 11x NW60s.    If anybody can save me a couple of bucks, PM me please.

If you don't find any on here, call AA Global on Monday. They carry parts for both.

The Oak parts will be for their PO89 (the oak knockoff) and the NW parts will be the PN95 (the Northwestern knockoff). Their parts list can be found HERE.
