Got a crane

blog-0019901001337142109.jpgI had planned to storm my brother's shop tomorrow and get working on the all-important Beaver cases.

But last night I won this Treasure Chest ("100% working") on eBay. It's in New Jersey, 4 hours away from me. I will spend the day tomorrow picking it up. I probably should have calculated the gas cost before bidding on it. I paid $205.

And I am kicking, kicking, kicking myself for missing the other one. Argh! The guy had two identical for auction, and I forgot and missed the first one, sold 4 minutes earlier. So, very, mad at myself. It sold for $176.

Sometimes the sales don't always work out, I have some machines I sold where the buyer hasn't paid for them yet, so let him know if the other one comes back up for sale you want it too!

these cranes are great, a few design flaws i have found but they are very easy to move and service. that one has seen better days. the plexi makes
the crane lighter but you need to replace it now and then vs most other cranes thgat use tempered glass. also the control box comes off easily for
moving thru standard doors. the low center of gravity makes it effortless to move though.

if you need a replacement board for it let me know i have them for $100

i also have some bill validators that should fit.

I should also mention this crane cant auto percentage so its going to be a little tricky for you to manage your costs.

Well after driving to NJ and back, one tank of gas, plus lots of tolls along the way, and while there I purchased off the guy another Treasure Chest claw and board for another $100, the total cost for me is around $400 spent.

It is clear to me, I'll have to build my own frames entirely. This thing is tragically ugly. I hate to spend another couple hundred dollars on this investment, but it needs to be right - it must be beautiful.

Thank you for the offer on parts - I will keep you in mind. I will be looking for a joystick and "button," at least. But this will wait. I can never get this done in time for August - so this is a goal for next year.

u can buy a joystick and button for a few bucks from happ controls

honestly if you are just going to build a new box you might as well just buy the crane guts from overseas. You will end up with a much more profitable crane because these old treasure chest cranes dont auto percentage. You can buy a kit with everything including the board, gantry, buttons, joystick, power supply,etc.. for about $200

honestly tho you can rehab that box with some paint and/or some vinyl stuff that goes over it. it can look like new.

The valuable info just keeps on coming. Thank you again! I had considered asking such a question - but I knew I would want a "sample" to follow anyway, as a guide. So I may do as you suggest and buy that kit and go that route (I'm biased towards new things anyway).

Do you refurb them yourself or do you have someone that does it for you? I have my strengths but being more handy than basic tasks is not one of them.

i do it myself, i am not really handy but honestly most cranes require some basic cleaning , just take everything apart and clean it then repaint. you can use bondo or wood putty to fill in divits in the wood.

im going to be refurbing some cranes and coin pushers soon ill post pics on how it goes.
