Dan Guy
To recap slightly from my earlier post to the Amusement Vending forum looking for a joystick, my 11 year old son lives and breathes claw machines, and all he wants for Christmas is one of his own. Buying a child a new one is far outside of my means, but I managed to find a really good deal on a used "Action Claw" aka Big Choice from Elaut by way of Betson. It is a little beat up cosmetically, but works, and the mechanisms appear to be in good order. As a condition of bringing it into the house, I had to promise my wife that we would refurbish it. (Sorry for the poor quality and selection of these images. I am hiding the machine in the basement and had only a very brief window of time the other evening during which to re-examine the machine while he was out of the house.) A few questions, for those of you who might know about these sorts of machines: 1.) The glass front is missing. Down the left side there are hinged metal brackets top and bottom which appear intended to hold the glass and allow it to swing outward. On the right side there is a hole in the frame that looks the right size for a barrel lock. Covering this hole, currently, is a big metal piece running the length of the right side, secured with a padlock through a hole in the side. Is this piece original, or an aftermarket kludge or keep it closed? It looks like I should be able to get a piece of plexiglass cut to fit, slide it into the brackets, and either lock it shut with the metal piece or insert a barrel lock into the hole on the right side with the tongue in front of the plexiglass, holding it shut. I'm wondering if there is some more eye-pleasing means that I am overlooking. 2.) The black plastic-y business over the wood is broken off in places, such as along the edge where the bottom of the glass front will rest. Is there some easy way to replace/fix this, or should I just fill it in with black electrical tape? Thank you.
caserri
Wow. That's going to be one happy kid come Christmas! Sorry I can't help with your questions but I would be very interested in how this turns out. Please keep us posted.
dogcow
#2 - im not 100% sure i guess u are talking about the melamine over the wood? best bet is to cover it with some adhesive vinyl or fill it in with bondo , sand and paint.
Dan Guy
Adhesive vinyl! That makes sense. I expect I can x-acto the melamine to make it straight so that I can get the vinyl flush to it.
Dan Guy
While the lights in the buttons both work, the forward button is missing the little plastic cover that goes over the light and has the arrow on it. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?

Dan Guy
I assume that this piece, the plastic cover that the insert goes under, is a "button cover"? I see two pages on the Happ site: http://na.suzohapp.com/pushbuttons/54100100.htm http://na.suzohapp.com/pushbuttons/54101100.htm Why do the covers in the images look so warped? And don't list their sizes. Do you heat-seal them and they shrink to fit or something?
Dan Guy
Anybody? Can I heat-shrink them with a hair dryer?

Dan Guy
8liners part PS1009 looks like the button, but is the entire button and switch. If it is the same size, I suppose I can just use the button cover. If not, I will have to try replacing the whole thing. Thanks!
