Paint Question

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to refurbish some old machines in the next few days and I'm looking for a paint that will cover the chrome I went to Home Depot and was told that the closes thing was metallic however it was only for walls and not metal. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

RICK.

This doesn't really answer the question but I thought I would throw out the idea of powder coating instead of paint.  Holds up sooo much better.

In the past we just used plain Rustoleum red when we painted things.  Long term performance sucked but it got the job done.

i would remove any rust and scuff up chrome with some 120 grit sandpaper then spary with black appliance paint.  not sure i understand the need for "regular paint" versus spray paint.  so far the best paints for stands ive used so far have been appliance paint and farm implement paint.  im working on 20 stands right now but until i get another line ran for oven i have the powder coating will have to wait.

mjacks I see you mention powder coating frequently and if I'm not mistaken , you farm it out.  What kind of deal do you get per machine , if I may ask?  I have some NW 60's with paint blistering/bubbles and curious if its worth powder coating or throw out and get new.

I think it averages out to be about $5 or $6 per piece no matter what size or complexity.  It was easier to do it that way than break it down by machine.  Not terribly cheap but cheaper than a whole new machine and it looks new when it is done.
