caserri Posted March 13, 2008 Share Posted March 13, 2008 Well even though I'm somewhat of a control freak, I think its time to start entertaining the notion of naming mods for VENDiscuss. My time is becoming extremely limited so I would like to have some backup to help me weed through and manage the posts. Up until recently I have read every post to the board and it has become very time consuming. (Not that I don't enjoy it.) The responsibilities will be basic moderator stuff. Here is a short list of items I consider important. Be mindful and take appropriate action against any content found to be illegal, distasteful, pornographic in nature, disallowed content as specified within our rules, or unapproved advertising links. Ensure that posts and topics are placed in the proper category. Keep threads focused and on topic. I know this can become difficult at times when there are many posts in one thread. Be cordial to members and be involved in conversations. Check links posted by members to ensure accuracy and relevancy. Do your best to quell any disturbences between members to guard against major conflicts. Keeping in mind that civil debate is acceptable. Help make VENDiscuss a place where we are all happy to be a part of. I know there are many, many members who visit here consistently on a daily basis but I also understand that everyone has their own things to do and are not always available. I would like to have at least 3 mods to increase the number of possible eyes looking after the forum. At first, all 3 will be "full board" mods with moderator rights to the entire board. At some point in the future, when we grow much larger, I will assign mods to specific categories then, further out, to specific forums.I would like to take nominations for moderators. You can either nominate yourself or another member. If you nominate another member, that member would have to accept the nomination before they would be considered. Once we receive at least 5 accepted nominations we will all have a chance to vote on the final 3. Votes will be cast by sending me a PM listing the 3 members you would like to have as moderators. Please make your nominations by replying to this thread. You can nominate 1, 2, or 3 members. I will leave the nomination period open for 2 weeks. (Nomination ends 3/27/08) If after 2 weeks we do not have at least 5 different nominations, it will remain open until we do. caserri Posted March 13, 2008 Author Share Posted March 13, 2008 Beer, I'm not asking anyone to feel like they are tied to the site or be here anymore often than they are. I know everyone has a life other than this place. (I hope! ) I'm basically looking for honest and trustworthy individuals who have the integrity to right things that are wrong as they see them. I'm certainly not looking for a bully or policeman. Anyone who visits here on a regular basis is probably already doing what I would hope a mod would do. The exception is that right now they tell me about things and do not have the tools to correct things themselves. I would like to have someone who is here frequently enough to be able to correct problems, or bring them to my attention, before they become cancerous. I think that between myself and 3 others, we should be able to accomplish this. There have been many issues in the past that have been nipped so far in advance that most members probably have no idea there were any problems at all. Just like any public forum, we have our share of spammers and other riff raff trying to get in. I have done my best to exclude them. This is just one area I would like a few more sets of eyes for as we grow. Not only am I looking for help in correcting things but also a team that can help me with decisions that affect the group. Many times I have done things here or made decisions and wondered if they were the right things to do. I'm a really bad second guesser of myself. A couple other individual inputs about things would help. Im also looking for those who care about what we have here and want to protect it and better it. I would like to share with you a PM that I received about this subject today. I will not reveal this members identity and I have taken the liberty to paraphrase a bit. The important part is how they feel about VENDiscuss... i just dont want to see this forum go the way of the other vending forum where alot of the posts are complete bullshit and a good bit of ignorant advice is given. i have been here since the beginning and will continue to be, i just dont want people that may or may not have any idea what they are talking about moderating this forum. when some newbies see that moderator tag under someones name they will take what they have to say as "the gospel" and that is what worries me. i dont want to sound like a complainer, i am just trying to look out for the forum. i think everything looks great and has been a good group since the beginning. This member shares my views and I would be honored to have them as a moderator. I will leave self nomination up to this member. I have been here alot lately, but only because I am on the injured list right now, and have extra time on my hands. I expect to be ultra busy once I am up and going again. Besides, all that power would go to my head! If things work out, like I hope they do, there may be a time in the near future, that I would have the time and inclination to help out and be a mod. If others feel the way you do then that will be who is chosen. Everyone has a right to run, just remember that in the end, the community will speak. Once the nomination period ends, everyone will have a week to study each candidates contributions to the site. I encourage everyone to vote for those who you feel will be an asset as moderator. Personal feelings aside. This is not a popularity contest so when you vote, please be objective and keep the good of the community in mind. Here is our updated list.
