huynhhh
I'm buying 10 vend stars online (used) for 63$ a piece (Canadian shipping kills) anyway.. So the guy said that he has all keys for the top (candy canisters) and that one key works with all of the machines, but I have to buy the coin box key and he said the key can open all of the locks (I have to buy because he doesn't have it and apparently it's access able on eBay) should I be concerned? He lives in the states, I live in Canada.. So like can anyone just look at the # on my lock and get a replica online to open my locks? Do you guys switch out all of your locks even if their new? And also.. Do USA coin mechs work for Canadian quarters or do I have to switch out all the coin mechs. Thanks

FrCorey
I would change all the lock and keys because they are easy to buy. not sure how the Canadian mechs work thou, most American mechs check for size, thickness and metal content. and from what I have seen, the coins are way different. and some American machines get jammed by them. Do you think the locks that the machines come with can be usable on different machines or should I not take the chance and chuck them Coin mech will work Efficiently without jams? huynhhh
Similar size Only time it'll not work is on electronic mechs Similar size Only time it'll not work is on electronic mechs Oh weird, I work at an arcade and even coin mechs that aren't equipped with an electronic comparator (mechanical) have trouble taking US coins.. I guess vending machine ones operate differently
FrCorey
I am not sure if they even fit other machines then vendstars. I never had one of those. but I wouldn't, those are called shipping locks and every one and their mother can get the keys. soon as someone realizes you use them it could get weird. save them for if you sell them, then take off your locks and put these on. not sure if they will jam thou, get one and try it. better to learn at your house then on a location. sweetstop
while i have seen some washers and other things work in a vendstar canadian coins will not. back locks have more than a dozen key codes and without the number, which is not anywhere on the machine or the lock, you will have to drill out the back locks and buy all new locks with keys, i have 10 backs with a unique key code with all locks installed that match if you are interested. jerrybrooks vending
I own 31 vendstars...if you can replace locks I would..locks on vendstars are very cheap..I broke 2 of them trying to tighten them..seems like they're made out of plastic also..I would get something stronger if I could. Pyrodude
I'm sorry, just tested with a Canadian quarter, didn't work Wow, I am amazed since Vendstar mechs seem to accept just about everything else on the planet. A competent locksmith can make a key for the rear lock. It is a bit pricey for the first key (mine was $40) but might be worth it as long as they are all keyed the same.
