MidWestern Vending Posted May 6, 2016 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I secured a location 2 months ago but just recently I noticed that the machine was placed outside. At night they close up the spot with gates, so I'm not worried about it getting stolen. I also sell blue diamond almonds, so not sure if that would be good. heritagevending Posted May 6, 2016 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Glad you asked that! I was wondering the same thing. We have Tomy machines in gazebos and lean-to's. I would never place one there - this one was inherited and does well enough that I left it (in hindsight not a great decision but not disastrous). It's getting trashed from weather although it's been there 3 years so I've made enough to cover the machine cost. Someday it will get stolen, vandalized, or disintegrate and I won't replace it. You can make a go of it, but it really breaks down to the individual loc. The machines I started with were all cheapo Vendstars and Ultravends, so there was nothing to rust, and they had very little trouble with bugs. Had I had metal machines, it could have been a much different story. As they were seasonal spots I just collected up the gear at the end of the 2013 season and never replaced them as a couple units had died out, and the rest I relocated. Almonds are an expensive, volatile product that spoils fast, and can be damaged by everything from direct sunlight and humidity to moths if left too long. That and chocolate would be the only products I'd be really worried about having outside, granted the machines aren't sitting out in the pouring rain or something like that. Long story short, if it's a good loc, and the machine and products can take it, roll with it. If not, relocate it to a more suitable home. Good luck! gumball guy Posted May 7, 2016 Share Posted May 7, 2016 If you placed the machine with the understanding that it would be INSIDE the building and they just arbitrarily placed it outside then they apparently don't care about your equipment. I sure wouldn't be running candy or anything moisture sensitive (BB's and Self-vend 1" dice come to mind), and I wouldn't get attached to the machine at all. I'd say you've got a decision to make- is the intake of money substantially greater than the cost of replacing the machine, and dealing with products that will not fare well in inclement weather?
