Davis Caroline
I have a locator that is giving me an apartment complex location. The apartments are nice and there are a lot of graduate students that live there. I have never placed a machine at an apartment before and could use some advice. First, where do you usually put it (and can it very)? Rental area? Laundry room (guessing not here)? Near pool? By drink vending machines if inside? Etc. Second what machine and product do you recommend? (I have Northwestern 60's with 2 per stand, Northwestern Triple Plays, and Vendstar 3000's. Thanks in advance! KPHudson
AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE.....Kickstart talked me into 2 apartment complexes...I reluctantly took them...2 months later I'm $1 dollar richer from them...I pulled one already for making $0.00 in 40 days...other one is about to get yanked as well

Jax Snacks
Only put bulk machines in a secured apartment lobby. Avoid the laundry room or workout room or any place not under supervision after 5pm - they will get stolen. Also avoid senior citizen apartments and college student apartments - they don't buy much. Luxury apartments are usually duds.

If I were a betting man, I'd be putting a lot of money on the fact you got that apartment complex from Kickstart, too. Kickstart tried hard to push apartments on me for TOY locations. I have had over a dozen apartment locations and NONE have been worth the drive to deliver a bulk machine...much less a 2nd drive to service. vendman0729
I got 2 apartment locations from KS and their both duds. They are like 5 or 6 dollar locations per month. Their very disappointing. The good thing is at least I have 1 800 vending machines there and only take 5 minutes to service. Also their in the lobbys which are secure areas and i am planning on going there after 2 months. However, either way apartment complexes in my opinion dont do well in general. I will see if their are any laundry areas there as I have heard they do better there. I would stick to using somewhat of a cheap machine but still with metal coin mechs. I think if you have a single head machine maybe some gumballs might be good just to see how it does and then upgrade from their depending on things. JLM Vending
my laundry room has a code and is next to the snack and soda machines, it's a u turn. I don't believe it is supervised. So you guys think it's really stolen? And why the heck would kickstart recommend toys for apartments? That doesn't make sense because apartments have the same kids over and over. They also told me they feel apartments would be the best type of spots and I almost fell for it. I am real frustrated with KS. I was getting rejected 4 or 5 times in a row for some of their locations and i was driving 40 plus minutes. Then i narrowed the search to less than 15 minutes. Guess what?? They made the same mistake 2 times after that and got me areas i told them to not get!! No matter what, they never learned and followed my requests. Amazing!!! andrewm451
I put a cheap Seaga triple in an apt laundry room. It had about 20 floors and was not luxury and not low income, kinda middle of the road. It was in an unsupervised laundry room. It did about $30 a month for a year, then got stolen. I got the machine for $35 so no big loss, but i did not replace it.
Bravo Duck
Andrew, always keep a few machines that cost very little to put in locations like that, it can pay off.

I have a feeling that if you have one of those 8-way u-turns, that your machine is pretty safe. Those are large and heavy and I don't think they are as susceptible to theft like a vendstar or double. You might get some vandalism though. I agree with you re kickstart too. I contracted for a toy machines, which they charge twice as much for those as they do for singles, yet they constantly gave me locations that were only worthy of singles or candy. They also would not consider working the commission route, and went with charity. I had to refuse 3 of the locations they sent me. Once was because I already have a machine in there which was found by Eddie. Of the 3 locations I contracted for, I have only one at this time. That one was a pharmacy, which has no business being included as a 'toy' location. I ended up using it as a single gumball location. But this is the most expensive single gumball location I've ever paid for.

I do a really good job not mentioning names too much but in this case, i have had so much to complain about with them. The reason i used them was to pay the extra 10 to get good spots. vendman0729
Overall Kickstart has a good reputation. Rob is known for his consistent good communication and is willing to work with vendors unlike some other locators. I am sure they can't care too much. The restraunt upgrade package is yes deffinitly worth it in my opinion.

But some of the requests were not met 2 or 3 times in a row, just little things, like stay out of this zipcode. But i think the lady who calls just doesn't keep track of these changes. You've come across more problems in the short time you're vending, than I have in 4 years. I'm glad you're keeping a positive attitude though. JLM Vending
don't Walk RUN. apartment complexes don't do good. the only traffic you get is people coming in to pay rent. I would have to agree. I just serviced an apartment. The machine looked cool there in the laundry room next to the soda machine. But it only had about 17 bucks in 2 months. Not very good.... I can't really replace it, because at this point so many of my spots are doing the same... But here is my worst apartment story. I recently put one in a lobby. The manager lady told me ''That looks perfect.'' And I recently came to service it more than 2 months later. Machine wasn't there. Turns out the lady got so scared that she would have points deducted against her from the regional and inspection, that instead of calling me to pick it up, she called the storage unit manager. My machine was there for less than a day! So i had to write a negative yelp review on the place. That is not very cool, to have my number and call the storage unit manager instead. My base is scratched too. GOODNESS i hate these u turns so badly. I have 7 spots that i just lost. 3 made pennies and 4 kicked out due to no space. And with many of the ones i have left, i have no idea what to put in the canisters. But as the old saying goes... You just gotta keep going. But it won't be with u turns. Phil
So does this apply to all vending in apartment buildings? I was thinking about contacting these two apartment complexes to see about placing a soda machine in workout room or by the pool.
