Hi, car dealership's can be good location's for vending machine's depending on where you can have machine's located. If you can place machine near location where people fill out paper work ect.. when purchasing a vehicle they a usually waiting around for a while & will use machine's. Hot beverage machine's work well here too, especially if you can have machine set up on FREE-VEND for salespeople to offer coffee to customer's while they wait. Car Dealerships are good. If you have a new car dealership its worth going after it. The vending machines often go into the service area. Larger dealerships might have equipment in the showroom too. To get this type of business you really need to approach them with something special such as custom machine fronts advertising their dealership line such as Ford. The fronts only cost a couple hundred and it really gives your proposal a little edge over the other proposals. Of course they like good pricing and normally do not ask for commission. But when you meet with them just ask what is important commission or pricing. Good Luck Poplady

mission vending
Does anyone have any experniace setting up an account at a car dealership? A new dealership is being built near me. Be prepared to offer new or nearly new equipment with all the bells and whistles. If this is a major brand dealer, Ford, Chevy etc and not something like VW then it should be well worth the effort to go after.
RJT
Car dealerships are a major pain in the rear. They are some of the most demanding folks you can deal with in vending. They usually always want good pricing as well as commission. They like to "have their cake and eat it to" as they like to say. They also will wear you out asking for "free" stuff all the time. The managers (and staff) usually always are asking for free this and that for some sales "event" or some other stuff they are doing. Some of the large dealerships can be decent accounts. If you can get their coffee business also then it can be worth having. I dont fall over myself going after car dealerships but I will pursue them on ocassion. Also they are seldom loyal and will switch fairly quickly if someone comes along and offer them a better deal. Unless you can get a decent contract be careful with a large layout of capital for a car dealership.

Unless you can get a decent contract be careful with a large layout of capital for a car dealership. While I suppose this could be the case in some areas this has not been my experience with dealerships. The vending companies I represent today are eager for dealership business. And I work hard trying to find one not already under contract to First Class Vending or Compass Group. I have not had a dealership ask me for commission yet or free stuff. Again it must be the difference in the market place. It might be difficult for a new independent to land one of these accounts, it is certainly worthwhile going after the business if the dealership has not already signed a contract. I have handled several dealerships in my area and held on to them for several years. Over all the income on was very very good. Sometimes there might be a jerk in the service area but normally they were loyal and respectful. The Wittern Group is famous for contracting auto dealerships and then selling them off to vendors and vendors do buy them when offered. If you check vending reports provided by several sources you will see auto dealers at the top of the list. I know right now Nationwide Tufffronts has a marketing campaign targeting dealerships. If you have a dealership now on your account list you might be on the look out for them asking you about that program. Again, this has been my experience and my two cents. RJT
Bev, I have dealt with MANY car dealerships and I guess it could be my "area" but what I stated is the case with how they treat vending companies and what their expectations are. These large dealers in my area are "ok" accounts but nothing outstanding. While not terrible revenue they can be profitable especially if you can get their coffee business. In my area which happens to be the headquarters (Charlotte NC) of Compass group they have very little dealership business and it is had by mostly smaller independents. Matter of fact I am not sure I have EVER seen a dealership they had. All the large dealerships in my area Flow, Crown, Hendrick, Modern, Parks, etc independents have always had and never Canteen. While a FEW I have dealt with have been decent that is rarely the case. As far as a "new independent" landing one of these accounts, that should not be to terrible difficult if they know what to offer and how to offer it. It is rare for a dealer to not want commission in my "area". Either way your "experience" may be different than mine but my experience is what I said in my original post....... To the OP let us know how it goes because you have now heard the good, bad, and ugly about car dealerships.......

RJT
OK well I found out it is not a car dealership it is a new motorcycle dealership with two brands. AHH, even lower volume than a car dealership. If you are just getting started it might be worth a shot at trying it but dont expect much in revenue. Dont spend much on machines and try and utilize a bottler assest for the drinks. Good luck and let us know how it goes....

Think I may be missing something here...... I am a little confused by your request?? So you want me to try and get these accounts from Canteen in Cali? Why would I want to do that? I thought you worked with Rainbow Vending now owned by Canteen? So you want me to go after accounts in Cali and you will pay me? If I get some request for people looking for prospects in that area I will have them give you a shout for a list of dealerships. Maybe get a list of mall accounts with laundry room locations also would be helpful while we are getting a list..... BTW, I am not a locator in that sense. I am a consulting company and offer appointment setting for companies looking to grow. I really don’t even like doing that and prefer to teach/coach people how to do it themselves. IMO people paying for locating isn’t the best way for them to learn and grow in the long run.

My response to you was to make a point that in California they are very very interested in dealerships. If you doubt my word, I can give you a list of the dealerships under contract with them in my area. Thanks for the offer of sending us customers, its always appreciated. Bev, Go back and read my post. I NEVER "implied" no such thing. What I did imply is that I have NEVER run into a car dealership in my AREA that Canteen had and I am in the same area as their corporate headquarters. Also, Rainbow vending and the others you mentioned were independents that Canteen bought out. I can assume they already had some car dealerships before Canteen bought them. I also know Canteen is always interested in any account they feel would be worth having in vending or ocs. At the moment Canteen is going through a growth stage where they are trying about anything, honor boxes, combo machines, etc. While not my business model or the model I promote I am sure they will do fine with their pursuits. OK, my misunderstanding. Rainbow and NCV were Canteen Franchise companies before the buy out. Just a note. I do agree with you that Motorcycle accounts do not do well in the West either. Not sure why but they are duds.

Phil
OK so I went to the dealership today. I guess I kinda slipped in by accident. I followed someone who was walking out the door an he held it open. I go in an see all the new bikes in the showroom, employee wanting to know how i got in. Told her who I was an what I did. She seemed kind of mad I got in the door. I still managed to get my card an brochure in their hand.

I don't see why anyone at a car dealership would be upset if someone was at their place. Maybe you were acting STRICTLY like a SOLICITOR and not like a real business man with a big smile on your face. Were you sneaking around or something? Lol.
