6th Location, Tire and Auto Shop

Well I got my 6th location today at a Tire and Auto shop that just opened. I am right beside the Coke machine. I am now officially out of machines and I just want more lol. I am holding off right now though; I have too much invested with not much return. If a good deal comes along though I will jump on it.

Move the slowest machine first. But don't get over expectant on income bulk vending is about quarters. People get weird about gumball machines. Put a hundred bucks in a savings account and you get .005 cents a year, a cd you get $1.50, yet guys think every gumball machine they spent a hundred bucks for should make $30 a month. This is an investment, what return do you want on your money? Your return is what you have left after all expenses including a wage for your work. So realistically if at the end of the year you have ten dollars left after all expenses including your pay you made 10% on your money.

Yeah I am going to see which one is the slowest after a few months and move it. I think if I can make back half of what I invested after candy expenses then I will be perfectly content, heck even a quarter (not literally) ha ha. I am checking a new location on Thursday after 2 weeks, seeing how it's gone so far. It's my chocolate location. I honestly love the business and really enjoy it so far even though I am still a newbie. It's a great hobby especially 2 years post college life and my old party days are behind me, even though I am only 23 ha ha.

Sounds great Bane,

My best advice to a young person (probably does not have much money to invest) would be to buy as many crap low priced machines as possible to start.  Your main goal here is return on capital.. you need to have as little $ as possible tied up in inventory/machines...  you need that cash to go out and buy more machines/locations...  Only fill your machines 10-20% tops and service regularly until you get a handle for what they want and the rate they purchase/month... (you could have your first fill higher to make a good impression, but you need high turnover/low inventory.  Work as close to home as possible and expand from there.. don't drive 30 minutes to a big town to start.

odds are you wont be in candy vending long...  most people who succeed at candy, work their way up the value chain into bulk/full line/amusement or atm's.

unless you have a lot of money to start,  do yourself a favor.. buy as many $10 vendstars as you can get your hands on..  You will have a 1-2 month ROI.  In a year you should have a business that annualizes $60,000 with no debt (if you don't pay yourself)

Thanks hanihotdog! My problem is I like them to look nice and so far all I have is Northwestern Super 60's. A little on the pricey side for a newbie like me but they look good and are reliable from what I've done so far. I have been filling my machines 3/4ths full because I thought it looked better but I guess I am doing that all wrong. I only filled my chocolate location half full. I live in Charleston, WV so it probably has the most potential being the capital city. I have 3 locations less than a mile from my house and 3 a less than a mile from work, so I am not traveling out of my way.  Maybe I should buy some use vendstars to have a quicker ROI then upgrade when I save up some. I have a lot tied up in machines and inventory right now being that I don't make a boatload of money right now lol.

Well... no use in second guessing.. Good news is you have not invested much in this business, and you really haven't bought that much candy. The machines you have are excellent.. buying cheap machines will just get you closer to your goal a lot quicker.

Tire/auto shops and laundromats are the places where my equipment gets torn up, just yesterday I picked up a machine from a tire shop where someone had broken the globe. Iff'n I were you I'd put a cheap ratty single gumball at the tire shop and move the Northwestern.

Part of this business is matching the equipment to the location. Sometimes you want nice new stuff for Asian restaurants, sometimes you want ratty stuff for warehouses and tire shops and sometimes you want something in between for break rooms.

Yeah, I will just keep it the way I am going. At least if a location is a dud after a couple of months, I won't have to throw out the gumballs and skittles. No I have not invested too much compared to what others have invested. All the machines I have bought so far have been craigslist deals I have had to travel for, there doesn't seem to be much for sale here. I think I should pick up at least one Vendstar or another cheap machine and see how it goes so I can have one more location.

I can imagine bravoduck. Luckily the machine is in the waiting area by the check in desk and not in the actual garage bay area. Still there is a chance it can get torn up. I am more worried about the hotel I installed yesterday. I didn't get to place it where I wanted to. I am beside the information booklet booth which is in the first set of doors. I imagine this can be easily stolen and the money and or machine used for drugs but I am hoping I am wrong. I definitely will from now on match the machine to the location. I'd love to get an Asian restaurant and put one of my nice, red Northwesterns but all of them around here seem to have racks already.

Can you get permission to chain your machines to the booklet booth? Would it be possible with the way that vestibule is set up?

It's possible I believe, the booklet booth had legs on it. I should ask when I go back in if I can. If it's still there in 2 weeks that is.
