I like as little a gap as possible in my machines too. In fact, I "borrowed" an idea from dperry here on the forum. I don't use the metal double or triple brackets for my set-ups at all. I use a wooden board instead. It's easier to put the machines as close as I want them. Plus, I save money because the wood is cheaper than metal brackets even if you include the spray paint.
