I'm also new to vending, I have been locating my own machines starting this week and so far so good, i've placed 5 already. But my question is, what do you guys do when you come to a place that says they can't make a decision you have to talk to their corporate office? I've tried to call the corporate offices, and just get no where. I get this a lot, especially from restaurant chains and certain insurance places. I'm placing bulk vending machines, vendesign and 1800 vending triple heads by the way. Also related, I get the response that "the owners aren't here and that they never are here and we can't give you his contact information." should I just shrug this rejections off, or has anyone overcome them? PerformaVending Posted July 27, 2015 Share Posted July 27, 2015 When it comes to "talk to corporate" or "the owner isn't here, and is never here" sort of scenarios, I move on to the next location. Though it's not much, there is a value to my time, and I'm not keen to waste it calling 1-800 numbers, and waiting around for phantoms who never check their properties. There are so many locations out there waiting to be scooped up that you can't really stop to fiddle with a handful of possible locations, at least in my opinion. I may check back later if I'm really interested in a spot (there was a bowling alley I wanted pretty badly a few years back), I will try back a couple times to see if I can talk to other people, but even that's pretty fruitless, at least in my experience. With the charity involved, and since I'm not asking for any sort of money I've gone a few places anyway. But since technically defined soliciting is "ask for or try to obtain (something) from someone." I wasn't sure if anyone has had problems. Thanks Calling corporate takes a lot of patience, time and getting past the gate keeper with most of them. It took us years to acquire some of the approvals that we have now. AMD Snacks Posted August 7, 2015 Author Share Posted August 7, 2015 Yea, not sure about kids for the insurance place. But around here, I'm not exaggerating when I say there are dozens within 3 miles. And they always have people in them waiting especially the check cashing places. Heck I waited 15 min in line just to ask if I could place there... ohwell. I know 3 people that have insurance, great insurance and they were denied MRI's because they had paid for to many already this year! One way or another we will all pay for it. I work for a supermarket and the store I was recently transfered to does not have machines in their breakroom as the company that was doing it pulled them out 2 years ago due to not making enough money. After talking to my manager he was excited when I told him I could get his machines. Fast forward 5 months and numerous calls and email to corporate and going to the corpopate office myself no one seems to know who oversees that. I have also identified myself as an employee, even though after 30 years with them many of the people I have contacted know who I am. I had the thought "why not just put the machine there?" My thinking is. . If no one knows who can authorize it. .. then theoretically, who will authorize removing it? DM usually can give permission for small charity machines or will know if they are allowed, if not you need to call the main office if its someone like Kroger. At that point it's a crap shoot between Human resources or the Main Operations manager. If it's charity, either can ok it. If it's money and or full size, you have to talk to the operations manager and usually the Financial department. Always do your research first to find out who is in charge so it's easier to get past the gate keeper. Ie: Malta, local library has the info although out dated usually, Google is a powerful tool as well. Find out information about them, dig deep, listen for likes and dislikes. The gate keeper isn't your enemy! Most of them when engaged in conversation will divulge information with out realizing it. Practice with smaller company's with just the idea that your doing it for research. Which brings me to another way of doing it. Let them know your on a project and doing research to see if they are interested in the idea, let them know that you want to know who to talk to. This isn't something you want to totally do in person. If it's full size, just the final presentation would be. The best way to close a deal is in person. Finding the info is best on the phone. Due to my battle with their ants., a new manager (who would give his arm if he thought he could get a promotion) but I have a feeling there is a ugh turnover rate there so I will wait a couple of months to see if he moved on.
