I'll often wipe them with my shirt or whatever I have that won't leave much lint or scuff up the sensors.. and I will wipe the sensors down a little and see if that helps. I would say simply wiping them down solves that error maybe 50% of the time but it's a rather uncommon error compared to other errors (such as bill bath jammed or disabled from mech/VMC). If I can't fix the error by wiping it down OR by powering the machine off/on for maybe 10 seconds, then I just replace the validator and send it off for repair.
