Bob258
Hello everyone, I'd like to start placing peanuts and cashews in my machines. Could anyone recommend where to buy them and what one's are best? Do they last long or do they go steel fast? How many are enough for a quarter? Thanks Bob
bullyfrog
They both are losers for a variety of reasons. They're expensive, you'll end up having to constantly throw away stales, there's the nut allergy liability, etc...Long story short, don't do it. To answer your question Sams has nuts and trail mixes. I believe Jeremiah is right on every level. However, that does not seem to keep some of the venders around here locally from vending them, and one of the locals told me cashews is one of his mainstays. Go figure. . . . . And I have all the same concerns Jeremiah has.
Billnuts
Cashews have a natural white larva that grows out of some of them when left out for a while GO AHEAD vend them... till customers see worms or get or eat a worm... then the account is GONE... bill
rodney69
Cashews have about a 4-6 month lifespan. The larva turns into a small moth looking thing that Erik get into every crevace of the machine. I can't believe anyone it's considering nuts! At .25? I suggest you run a cost vs. Profit Then take into effect the damage the salt does to the machine. They will sell faster, but the profit margin is even half of what pmm is! Then the allergy issue. Even if you wipe down the machine when you change product to candy out won't get the allergin proteins out. You do what the other guys aground you are doing, but that's a failing business model. I used to run nuts I'm every machine, bad way to make money.

I once had a 4-way toy rack in a nice restaurant. Well someone plopped their money-losing Vendstar next to my toy rack and filled it with money-losing candy and nuts. And like many money-losing Vendstar owners, they eventually abandoned their money-losing machine and left the money-losing products to rot away. Well, you can guess what happened next! The worms in those money-losing nuts hatched. The restaurant owner was furious and threw the money-losing Vendstar into the dumpster. Unfortunately, they also booted my MONEY-MAKING toy rack (on my next visit) as well. All vendors and machines were toast. All I can say is that I really wish I had my Louisville Slugger baseball bat handy for that grey plastic triple beauty (before the restaurant owner chucked it) - now in a landfill - may it (and the worms) rest in peace! Bob258
Thank you everyone. I never expected to get so much valuable information. I never had any idea that there are so many problems vending peanuts. Thanks to all of you I’m not going to have to figure this out myself. I will say that there are peanuts of some kind in almost all of my competitors in my area. I do see that the machines always look dirty from the peanut dust but now I’m going to start looking for worm crawling around.

We full line vendors avoid these like the plague but it would allow you to sell sealed packets of nuts - at least you would have an expiration date and no worms. Nuts in general turn rancid if not sealed and would be a bad product to put in a traditional gumball machine. You may note that anytime you buy a can of nuts at the store they always come in a sealed container to ensure freshness.
