Trim paint

Recommended Posts

So I am painting the trim on my national 147’s this summer. I have about 8 of them to do so you can see why I am choosing to paint rather than replace. The problem is which paint. I bought a dull aluminum spray paint because I saw it on veii.com and assumed that’s why they would have it. Not the case. It’s too dull. Any suggestions?

Too cheap to do it right and replace the trim with nice, new pieces, eh?  The paint won't stick well due to years of fingers and dirt and grease etc on them and you probably don't want to buff each one so the paint will stick if you're too lazy to replace the trim.

Clean the trim well with soap and water, sand it with some 300 grit, and wipe with acetone. Then I like to use Self etching primer and rustoleum pro black on top. However, while this looks pretty good at the beginning, it will start to look dingy faster than new trim as the paint is still supceptible to mechanical damage (scrapes, gouges, chips, etc)
