  1. Chris, I'm taking another swing at being retired! It didn't last long when I tried it before, maybe now it will... but I'm still searching the business ads for the anonymous millionaire opening!
  2. After 12 years and some few months, I have sold all my vending locations and am leaving the business! Right now I am working to transition everything to the buyer, so I will be around for a little while. So I am probably going to end up with a lot of older parts the buyer will not want or need, and if I do I will probably have a "vending garage sale" to help clear out my warehouse. If any of y'all are nearby or interested in coming to sunny Florida in December, let me know! I am just a little south of Daytona Beach on the east coast and just off I-95. Hoping to dispose of any leftovers locally and not deal with shipping, we will see... will update here as things happen! Best of luck to you fighting guys and gals still in the vending trenches!! 3. My .02, just adjust your regular pricing. I have never done two-tier pricing myself because I know the customers find it confusing, and don't understand or care about the justification anyway.
  4. Two things come to mind - first, when you installed the units did they ever work for cards? Sometimes on a new install you might need to reboot once or twice to force the readers to make contact. Cycle the power and watch the display while it powers on and tries to make contact. Check signal strength once they are booted up. Check the troubleshooting card that came in the box for suggestions. Second, I had some new units lately that were not shipped with proper setups; they can download the info quickly to correct these issues. Call early AM (they start at 0800 ET) if you want to get tech support by phone. Later in the day the queue gets too long...
  5. Have you thought about using a Cantaloupe unit? If you are going to buy something, buy something that is not scheduled to be obsolete soon....
  6. "Makes 100K a year" - is that total sales, gross profit, or net profit? Details?
  7. I have had a very basic website almost from the beginning. I got the domain thru GoDaddy along with email service and used their design tools to set it up myself. I renew it all on an annual basis for a couple hundred. I need to spend some more time keeping it up to date and adding new content to help the SEO, but I mostly ignore it. I have received a few good accounts thru the website, since almost anyone looking for anything these days is searching the web. My wife's experience with web designer services in a prior job left me convinced that most of them are overpriced and hard to work with, so not worth using.
  8. That's a spacer for smaller packages. It's used to set up a selection for 12 oz cans along with the proper shim. Obviously was not inserted fully in the tray.
  9. Parlevel has a healthy inventory/ warehouse module that probably does all you want, I don't know if it would integrate with QB. I use QBO for accounting and manage inventory in Parlevel with no issues. I don't think that makes me a poor business operator...
  10. Pastries should be available at Sams Club or Costco (Big Tex rolls, danish, honey buns). Lance crackers (Toastchee, Toasty, Nekot) usually sell well. Energy drinks (Monster) are big right now. Grandma's cookies, Kars sweet and salty mix, pop tarts are all good selections.
  11. If your coin mech has a removable cassette make sure the proper cassette code is programmed in. Also check your escrow settings on the bill validator. Gizmo is spot on about the tray contacts. Look for anything obstructing the contacts and also make sure both shelf latches are setting properly.
  12. Yea the guac did ok for a while a few years ago but slacked off, the voodoo's are about done for this run too but the Salsitas I almost always have (when I can get them) love that long shelf life too....
  13. I have 2 refresh machines, one works fine, the other.... is the reason you are turning off auto calibration! Have been working with them for 2 months trying to get the machine right but mine has picker issues that won't go away. Dropping product is as CV says a cleaning issue in most cases. Be sure you are putting the product in fully and not leaving the first item stuck in the gate. Get some food grade silicone spray to help you clean and lube the gates and levers.
  14. When they first came out I was excited, and rushed to try them out. The biggest issue I had was it using the customer's phone for connection in locations where cellular service was weak. No cell signal, no purchase. I phased them out long ago in favor of USAT readers with BLE (Tap) capability. People can use their own cards on their smartphones and are happy with that. The preloading of funds mostly benefits payrange, as you are not getting the time value of the money, they are. Slightly lower fees but not nearly as useful as it could be. Now, if I had a location where payrange was already in use, like a laundromat where the machines were taking it, I would add it there, but I have dropped it from any locations currently.
  15. Try removing the starter, just leave the starter socket empty. Most direct replacement LED's I have installed won't work with a starter in place.
  16. What he said... I spent several years testing different readers and companies before I finally settled on USAT (now Cantaloupe) about 5 years ago. I will keep using the G11 for as long as I can, paired with ParLevel VMS. Nayax is good but I had too many hardware failures with their older models; Crane is too expensive and prone to back end issues; the early parlevel box (now discontinued) was just OK and the payment processor makes you jump through too many hoops.
  17. The broken flap is allowing extra heat and moisture into the cabinet, and in the summer heat that has probably overwhelmed the capacity for evaporation to keep up. If you check your product it is probably sweating. You might have worn out the compressor and are having issues with it as well. The sponges allow water in the evap tray to wick up and evaporate faster, if they are submerged they won't do any good, but that's not your problem as far as I can see. Fix the flap and check for other air leaks (condensation around the inner door seals). I sometimes replace or add to the sponges with dollar store sponges; cut notches in 2 or 3 sponges to join them on edge at an angle with space between them and set them in the tray sticking up above the edge. Probably not as good a the factory sponges but it works...
  18. Sounds to me like you are there. You don't say what your revenue at the account is but you can't support a cold food machine if no one is buying cold food for sure. If that's a deal breaker for them let them be someone else's heartache, if they can find anyone else in today's economy...
  19. I have a National 147 with a VE upgrade board. The board has been installed for several years and no issues, but now the machine has started jackpotting product. It started with just one item on the bottom row, now it's the entire shelf. Have not yet be able to recreate the issue but the customers are returning the excess product so it's a real thing. Customer inserts cash, selects item, the selection vends multiple items and return the credit. The machine does not have a vend sensor. I'm thinking bad board, any other suggestions? Thanks.
  20. Commercial space is always at a premium, and vending is an afterthought at best (and some upper managers consider it to be a nuisance). Give them what they want and service weekly; take the other set of machines and find a new location. It's their space and they need it for their business, not yours. It's tough but that's the reality of vending. Be polite and professional, if/when they decide they need more you will get the call.
  21. Speaking of taking pennies? Yes, I believe I saw that setting on a Gryphon, just didn't pay much attention since I don't plan to use it. The 7000's can't do it. Gryphon's are nice and no problems so far but I only have 1 or 2, have not really gotten into programing them yet. There are still a lot of 7000's out there, I bought another refurb one just this afternoon.
  22. I have a couple Gryphons out in the field, no issues so far. I do like the 7000 series and doubt they will go away anytime soon; look at all the coinco 9300's still in use....
  23. I recently paid 1900 for a refurb 123 so the cost vs equipment value seems good to me. The cashless I installed needed an extension cable for the reader, not a big deal. I like Royal vendors in general, like they said it may need an upgrade. 80 employees on site or in and out? 80 on site is probably good and the GF drink is always a winner.
