The American Hunter

You might have seen these statistics before, as I have, but I still find it interesting!

The world's largest army ... America's hunters!

I had never thought about this ...

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters

this season in the state of Wisconsin.

Over the last several months,

Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran. More than France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to

the woods of a single American state, Wisconsin,

to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and

Michigan's 700,000 hunters,

all of whom have now returned home safely.

Toss in a quarter million hunters

in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the

hunters of those four states alone

would comprise the largest army in the world.

And then add in the total number of hunters in the other 46 states.

It's millions more.

The point?

America will forever be safe

from foreign invasion with that

kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting ...

it's not just a way to fill the freezer.

It's a matter of national security.

****************************

That's why all enemies,

foreign and domestic,

want to see us

disarmed.

So even if we disregard some assumptions that hunters

don't possess the same skills as soldiers,

the question would still remain...

What army of 2 million would want to face

30, 40, 50 million armed citizens???

My uncle who was in the 2nd wave at Omaha beach on D-Day told me once, thats one of the reasons the united states mainland was not invaded in WW II

How did he learn this?

Not doubting you or your uncle...I just figured there was an interesting story behind the info.

Here on the west coast, a Japanese invasion was a real threat. Japanese sub sightings were not uncommon. There were two things that prevented that from happening, one was Midway and the other was the largest militia on earth.

My mother told me this. Her brother drove Higgins boats at Guadalcanal and Landing Tractors at Tarawa. I was in the Tulsa area a few years ago and stopped by to visit him - my three cousins were there too. I don't recall how the subject came up but he told us about Guadalcanal and Sebu and Tarawa and after Tarawa he just went kind of silent.

Later that day, one of my cousins told me that their father had never spoken of the war to them before that day.

I think it's a difficult thing for those of us born after WWII to understand the mind set of those who lived through that time. All of our lives the U.S. has always been the "big dog on the block". We forget that prior to WWII it was not considered so.

I really dont know how he knew that, I will say that he is not the only one from that era that I heard that from. I would say it was a very real situation at that time. Remember the east coast had lights out drills and I have read about German U-boats patrolling up and down the east coast not only looking for supply ships but also surveying the coast. ( no sats in orbit back then)
