vxl65703
I recently pickup a Vendo 720 drink machine, machines cools fine and dispenses fine, but I noticed that it has another “door” switch between the bill validator and coin mech. Does anyone know what the other switch is for ?
Vendo Mike
I've seen people wire in an extra switch for their telemeter/card reader. From the way that's mounted though, it will not engage with a closed door. Without seeing what the wires are going to, I can't be sure what the previous owner was doing with it. AngryChris
I have had some with two switches. It seemed to me like they were just put there to be easier to get to.
Vendo Mike
It looks like it's pointed toward the bill acceptor so it still won't engage on anything unless someone is remembering to press it every time they load? OK then...to each their own I guess.
AZVendor
I believe it's wired into the logic board so you can enter the programming without moving harnesses out of the way to find the mode button. I have seen them on several Vendos as well. Mike, you should ask the engineers about it and I'm surprised you aren't aware of it. I would bet this is on a bottler machine, probably from Pepsi. Vendo Mike
I've seen all kinds of "southern engineering" but generally they're there to make life easier on the operator. I was still in the mindset of a second door switch so this made no sense to me. I will say that the V21 mode button is small, black and getting harder to see as I get older. A kit was created to make programming buttons more accessible from inside the door on V21. The kit didn't sell and I think was forgotten about. vxl65703
I traced the wiring to "J5 Vendo Aux" connection on the control board
vxl65703
Just as a followup, the issue I am having is that I am not able to get into setup mode to change the prices.. I press the mode button and it does not go into setup, called Vendo and they said replace door switch, which I did and I am still unable to go into setup mode, I also switched out the control board. AZVendor
Are you pressing the service mode button on the logic board? When you open the door does the display stay the same as when the door was closed? The display should change when the door is opened to reflect the machine now being in the service mode. If the display doesn't change then the door switch isn't doing that, which could mean it's wired wrong, a bad switch, a wrong switch or the switch harness isn't connected to the logic board. Vendo Mike
To get into Service Mode, your door switch needs to be open and your mode button pressed. On the 720, the mode button is yellow and found in the next to J4. If you aren't getting into service mode, one of those switches has failed. vxl65703
Problem solved(Thanks to Vendo support), the door button switch wires were on the incorrect prongs. the wires were on the back right prongs when it should have been on the front right connector... once I switched them I was able to set the prices... I was able to use the second button to go into setup mode. Thank you Edited July 13, 2022 by vxl65703 Update content
Vendo Mike
I'm glad you were able to program. Did the compressor and lights engage when you closed the door? Did the display immediately jump to a sales message or stay in service mode when the door was closed? Unless I'm misreading, it sounds like your switch may still be wired incorrectly with both wires going to the same end of the switch connecting your NC and NO. Your wiring should lead to "C" or common and "NC" or normally closed which are on opposite ends of the switch body. Wiring diagram for the door switch on 720 above. vxl65703
Once I got the wiring straight, I went into Mode reset the prices, when I close the door it went cycle through until price screen appeared.

AZVendor
The compressor is on a delay of 2-3 mins after you close the door.
