AngryChris Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I am working on a few machines in my garage and I noticed that the vendo 720 that has been sitting in the back of my garage for years.... the plug was fairly warm when I unplugged it from the extension cord, as was the extension cord plug. I immediately figured that the machine was drawing extra current when it shouldn't be. I don't know why it would be so warm though. The best I could figure was that there was something wrong with my extension cord plug, the machine plug, or the compressor is drawing too much current. The plug going into the outlet was not warm. Any ideas/suggestions? I don't recall this happening on other machines that were plugged in and cooling. The machine WAS cooling. Could it be the plug/cord itself?
Anacapa Vending Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 If you absolutely have to use an extension cord make sure its 12 AWG anything smaller is going to create too much resistance thus creating heat.
AZVendor Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Yup. Try not to use any extension cord. If you must then it should only be as long as the length needed to reach the machine.
AngryChris Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 Thanks. I checked and it is 50' 16 gauge so I'll try to get me a 25' 12 gauge.
orsd Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Get the shortest one that can still fit the gap-more length=more resistance= more voltage drop= higher current= more heat.
AngryChris Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 I have no electric in the garage so 25' will have to do, but thanks!
